Lisa Lampanelli Calls Lena Dunham N-Word In Controversial Tweet

Lisa Lampanelli has been known to create a stir, and she did it again with a provocative tweet on Monday featuring “Girls” star Lena Dunham and one of the most controversial words in the English language.

The foul-mouthed comic posted a picture of the duo on Twitter, captioning it, “Me with my n**ga @LenaDunham of @HBOGirls - I love this beyotch!!”

Lampanelli’s use of the N-word ignited a predictable firestorm, with a number of outlets taking her to task for employing it.

Many observers contended that posting the word, even as a joke or without malice, was in poor taste and completely unacceptable.

Throughout Tuesday, the comedian retweeted fans’ messages supporting her and downplaying the controversy, saying it’s well within the bounds of comedy.

    I NEVER use the word, but I’m sick to death of the selective outrage over the word. Either it’s always wrong to use it or it’s never wrong. You don’t get to have it both ways. Oh and Lena kind of an idiot, so I don’t feel at all bad for her,.

    There’s a difference between using the word “nigga” and “nigger”. The latter has a much deeper history in being used hatefully, as well as being offensive. That’s not to excuse what she said, but the way this was written makes her out to be Michael Richards.

    The ”real” meaning of that word goes way back in history, it means slave and shouldn’t be used anymore. I think the world has evolved since then, would be nice to use another word other than that one. We have a dictionary full of them, be creative and not ignorant!

    The word means what it means. When one black person says it to another, it’s more along the lines of “my fellow nigga.” It’s still not exactly a class word to use. We’re not going to ignore hundreds of years of slavery to pretend it’s not insulting for white people to pretend to sound “street.” Sorry, rich white women, it’s still offensive to most (educated) people. People need to stop pretending that saying something isn’t racist just so they can get away with saying something racist. “It doesn’t mean the same thing!” and “How come black people get to say it?!” are ridiculous responses. 1) Yes, it does. 2) Because they’re black. If they integrated it into their slang, it’s because they’ve taken back that word. It’s not for you to use to mock them. Also, keep in mind. This is LISA LAMPANELLI. She’s an insult comic who doesn’t shy away from blatant racism. It’s her thing. She also reasons that it’s okay because she’s slept with so many black men.
