A number of bad blogs fell victim to a hoax by photographer Harvey Edwards, who claimed he took a series of naked photos of Lindsay Lohan a few years ago.

One especially gullible webloid — read by virtually no one — even interviewed Edwards for an “exclusive” about the alleged naked photos.

Of course, that site and many others didn’t bother to fact-check with Lohan or her rep to verify the authenticity of the shots.

What makes it all particularly pathetic is that the woman featured in the pictures doesn’t even look like Lohan.

NOTE: We have not linked to the fake photos.

Suffice to say, Gossip Cop got in touch with Edwards, Lohan’s rep, and even Lohan herself.

Lohan tells us exclusively she “never” posed for Edwards, and adds, “I’ve never heard of someone by that name before.”

Her rep, however, does know who Edwards is because he says the photographer has reached out on several occasions seeking to shoot the actress.

Edwards, for his part, admits to Gossip Cop that he’s never photographed Lohan — naked or otherwise.

He tells us that he pulled the prank as a lark, and that “people will believe anything if it comes off credible.”

Edwards even feels the public “doesn’t care” whether or not something’s true.

Obviously many of you disagree, which is why Gossip Cop has become the most popular site of its kind.

Cant believe it took this long for these fakes to surface. That guy emailed me three times to post his pics on my site lindsayloahn.us with these press releases like he was legit.

I’m writing this to set the record straight. Contrary to what Steve Hoing said I have not contacted him or even attempted to contact him in the past two months. Further my communication with him was kept at a minimum of 3 or 4 times. Your article is misleading and totally fictitious. The fact that you said in your article I had a fixation with Lindsay Lohan is so far from the truth. I do believe she needs HELP and I would not want to personally have anything to do with her. You need to correct what is false, deceiving and misleading. You are supposed to tell the truth please do so. That is what you are supposed to be known for. hey harvey, why don’t you explain why the supposed pictures of lindsay are on your website with other unnamed random pictures. you have no celebrities on your website. interesting that when you had a piece in the huffington post back on September 2, 2010 you never once mentioned those pictures were of lindsay lohan. where is this book you keep talking about and why is it the only celebrity you mention is lindsay? why are you not mentioning all these other celebrities you supposedly took pictures of and why aren’t you putting up their pictures? funny how those same pics that are supposedly lindsay are listed as prints on http://www.harveyedwards.net and again not listed as lindsay lohan and why would you be selling them as prints if you were using them for a “celebrity” book?
