Lily James Fires Back at Cinderella Waist Controversy: “Why Do Women Always Get Pointed At For Their Bodies?”
Lily James, the star of Cinderella, is firing back at continued criticism of her thin frame, especially her tiny waist, as it appears in the new Disney film. The actress and others associated with the movie have been defending against charges that her character’s body was either digitally altered or otherwise made artificially slim, and that it is not the proper message to send to young fans.
On Monday, James addressed the critics on HuffPost Live. “On one hand it’s upsetting, on the other hand it’s just boring,” said the star. “Why do women always get pointed at for their bodies? And why is this whole thing happening and I’m constantly having to justify myself? International Women’s Day has just gone, and it just feels just a bit sad that it’s still happening. You know, I’m very healthy and I always have been.”
“I’ve always had a very healthy attitude toward my body,” insisted James, whose co-star Richard Madden also stuck up for her. “I can vouch for Lily on this. That’s her real waist,” Madden said on HuffPost Live. “I held it, I know how tiny it was. And she did eat. She eats like a boy.” Watch the video below, and tell us what you think about the controversy.
