Liam Payne: Zayn Malik Quit One Direction To Be With Perrie Edwards – LISTEN
Liam Payne confirmed that Zayn Malik quit One Direction for his fiancee, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards. Payne was on England’s Capital FM “Breakfast” show on Wednesday and, when asked why Malik left the band, he said, “He wanted to go and spend some time with his family and missus.” Listen to Payne’s interview below.
Payne said he missed Malik, but noted, “I mean, you know, he had to do what he had to do, really for himself.” He added that being in One Direction is “like any other job really, sometimes you have to move on because you’re not enjoying what you’re doing as much.” Payne noted that Malik felt he needed to “spend some time” with his “missus,” Perrie Edwards.
As Gossip Cop reported, right after Malik quit in March, many fans began to compare Edwards to Yoko Ono, who’s been blamed for decades for breaking up The Beatles because of her relationship with John Lennon. Among the many tweets, at the time, was one from a fan named Free Spirit, who wrote, “Seriously though, does Perrie Edwards think she’s Yoko Ono? She broke One Direction apart!”
But there are no hard feelings anymore, said Payne. He told the radio hosts, “We wish [Zayn] all the best with whatever he goes into and stuff. We’ll just have to see what happens.” As for the remaining four members in the group, Payne stressed that they’re all “great mates,” and they’re “just going to carry on doing what we’re doing.”
