Liam Payne: I Prefer Writing Songs Over Performing With One Direction
Liam Payne opened up about Louis Tomlinson’s baby bombshell, Zayn Malik leaving One Direction and whether he will ever quit the boy band in a new radio interview on Monday. Speaking to Magic Radio in the UK, Payne admitted that he prefers writing songs, but couldn’t say whether he would ever leave his One Direction band mates.
Payne said, “I like writing songs for different artists, and crafting a song is a really beautiful thing to do.” He added, “I much prefer doing that sort of thing. I love being in the band. I don’t know if I could do it by myself now. It’s all too comfortable.”
He also talked about Tomlinson expecting a baby with stylist Briana Jungwirth. “Well, obviously I was a bit shocked, but he’s taken super well to it,” noted Payne, who stressed that Tomlinson is taking impending fatherhood “very seriously.” “He’s very excited with what’s going on with him at the moment, and I feel that stuff like that happens sometimes,” said Payne.
Payne then switched to another hot topic: Malik’s solo career and recent announcement that he had signed with RCA Records. He said the band always knew Malik’s “heart wasn’t in it.” And while Malik is no longer in One Direction, Payne revealed, “I’m dead excited to hear some of his stuff. I did a lot of work with him in the studio when he was in the band. We used to stay up late and do rap stuff, which is quite interesting.”
