Leslie Carter was laid to rest in upstate New York over the weekend, just days after her shocking death at 25, but famous big brother Nick did not attend the funeral.

The singer honored his commitment to perform at a concert that evening.

In a statement, Nick Carter explained, “I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic.”

“I want to thank everyone for all of their compassion and support that I have received during this most difficult time,” continued to Backstreet Boy. “There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister. I am trying to stay healthy, positive and focused.”

According to some reports, Nick believes the family attempted to keep him away from the service.

Earlier in the week, Nick posted a statement in which he thanked fans for their prayers and said “performing is cathartic to me.”

Aaron Carter was at the funeral, among approximately 60 mourners.

While no official cause of death has been determined, a police report indicates that Leslie overdosed on prescription pills.

There’s no excuse not to go to your sisters funeral. What a dick!

It sounds like he didn’t know any of the details about the when/where.

No matter how difficult my “family” dynamic was, I’d never miss my sister’s funeral. But it sounds like he didn’t know the details…

It’s sad that families can’t put their difference aside for one day, to say goodbye to a family member.

It is sad how this family is so dysfunctional. But he should not have missed her funeral. That would probably haunt him for ever. He should have canceled his tour dates this week and went home or where ever his sisters body was. He should have been a bit more proactive.

Poor excuses….show up and grow up.

Whether he knew the details or didn’t want to go…why does it matter? Regardless of it’s his sister, there is more than one way to pay your respects and celebrate one’s life. I, for one, never go to funerals, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love or respect whoever passed away.

I’m sure he’ll regret this for the rest of his life, but I’m also sure that this was not only his doing. His family must have had a role in this as well…they will feel just as guilty for pushing him away. It really is unfortunate.

She had an addiction to prescription drugs and she moved to Canada with her family as she was trying to kick the addiction but they left her alone for about an hour and she was unconscious when they got back.

I agree. We don’t know the full details about what really happened. My guess is he didn’t know anything about it. But you’re right there’s more than one way to show your respects. I don’t go to funerals either, I’d rather remember the person as they were not in a coffin.

Its kind a weird that he dont now the details. It seems that he was at a party during her sisters’ funeral.

I was at the concerts after party that night, he performed four songs and walked off the stage. He wasn’t happy that night. So it appears to me he didn’t know the details and was really upset when he found out he missed it. He just wanted to be left alone that night.
