LeAnn Rimes Sues Twitter Users For Invading Privacy By Recording Phone Call

LeAnn Rimes has filed a lawsuit against two Twitter users whom she claims illegally recorded and distributed a phone call they had with the singer.

Rimes, who is currently in a treatment facility for emotional issues, says she reached out to Kimberly Smiley and Lexi Smiley after they allegedly bashed her repeatedly on Twitter following her affair with a then-married Eddie Cibrian.

The “campaign of harassment” allegedly continued well after Rimes and Cibrian officially got together, prompting the country star to reach out to them via phone in the Spring.

According to Rimes’ suit, the Smileys — who have allegedly hidden their true names — secretly recorded the conversation, and then posted “out-of-context excerpts” online designed to paint Rimes “in an egregiously false and negative light and cause her emotion distress.”

Rimes is now suing for invasion of privacy, and is hoping to get an injunction against further dissemination of the recording.

The songstress is also seeking damages, and has her attorney looking into whether the women can be prosecuted criminally as well.

Does it make any difference that she apparently initiated the call?

This women has serious issues. She seems to have been quite happy giving up her singing career to basically do nothing but post narcissistic photos of herself in a bathing suit on twitter. She is a diva who seems to think she is all that and more. She lives her life through a public social media site and then expects it not to come back to haunt her. The women really needs to be in that treatment center. Maybe they can get her to eat while she is in there, her personality would probably change tenfold if she stop starving her body and mind.

If they recorded the whole conversation,it means they set her up.As I understand it,they recorded from the moment this Kim person answers the phone and some Ericka person respond before handing the phone to LeAnn.Yet Kim says she was ‘shocked’ it was LeAnn on the other line.Yeah,right.She was expecting that call.No wonder so many people are accusing this Ericka person of stabbing LeAnn in the back.

um idiots it’s against the law to record somebody without their concent. what did Y’all fail us history or just plain forget incidents like this were involved in the watergate scandal that forced President Nixon to resign. of course someone like Leann who has been in the music business since they were a child is going to have issues she co-signed her first contract at age 11 in 1994 and her first album blue was released when she was 13 in 1996 and up until Carrie Underwood’s debut album Some Hearts blue was the best selling female country debut album ever

Real stars should stay away from social media, and let their media team deal with that. Of course, if they want to get in touch with their fans, they can sometimes go on directly on their own official site. Social media is mostly for attention seekers like socialites, reality stars and famewh*res.

I agree. They must have made sure that Leann had their number and were waiting for it.

  • Jamie T

    No, it’s still illegal

  • Mike

That’s what she gets for mingling with and making phone calls to us plebeians.

Actually it’s only illegal to record without both parties consent in 12 states. The other 38 states only require one party on the conversation to be aware. I wonder if they used RecordiaPro to record their call. i have used them when I was going through my child custody battle.

LeAnn Rimes has every right to file suit on those twitter users. They shouldn’t get away with that sort of thing no matter what her personal life is about. This sort of thing can become wide-spread. There are twitter users who now are trying to bully a lot of celebs as if they are trying to control their lives like they want them to go. Their as*** should be locked up and they should go to jail because they are conducting themselves like criminals + there is a law against bullying on twitter.,, even though this could be something beyond bullying, especially if she had to go to get treatment for it. Their as*** are putty now! Those (whoever) are dangerous to society and should be put away from society and receive some kind of treatment.
A lot of this sort of thing starts with tabloids always spreading some sort of false light on celebs and the crazy people start reading it and feel they are doing the right thing. Then they start harassing the celeb/s. That is also what tabloids do: take things out of context; also twist what they say in recordings and quotes. There should be an effort in stopping it all.

Business people have to promote their business on social media. Some celebs are business people too.

  • What?

I just saw Hollyscoop’s version of this in my computer’s entertainment section on video. They are taking the Smiley’s side and spreading nationally that it was LeAnn who was out of control and harassed them before going to “rehab”. It’s the tabloid or whatever Hollyscoop is that makes it hard for the celebs. These Smileys must be some kind of people backed up by some other people who have access to the media.
If I were LeAnn, I would have had my detectives and some law enforcement on this and let them handle it. She is, evidently, working with some vicious people that seem to want her out of the way.

  • Brenda

Totally agree, and why in the world she complains about someone else trying to put her in a “false and negative light” is beyond me. She has done a very good job of that for herself.

  • Really?

Who on earth calls twitter fans for harassing them on twitter?? Are you serious? If she’s so confident about her marriage, why is she letting some twitter person get her so upset to where she needs to call them. How about you ignore them or block them? Oh here’s an idea, why don’t you get off twitter. Doesn’t she have a family? How does she have time to tweet and read tweets all day.
