LeAnn Rimes: I Was NOT Drunk on X Factor

LeAnn Rimes is slamming rumors claiming she was drunk during her duet with Carly Rose Sonenclar on Wednesday night’s “X Factor.”

Blogs such as TMZ wrote that the country singer’s performance of “How Do I Love” had “a lot of people wondering if she hit the bottle before taking the mic.”

The site alleged Rimes “looked wobbly and seemed to meander as the song went along,” noting that at one point, “LeAnn clutched Carly Rose, arguably to maintain her balance.

Now, Rimes is taking to Twitter to blast the speculation.

She tweeted, “In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl.”

Rimes added, And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is ‘It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.’”

A lawyer for Rimes also tells us she was “not” drunk.

    She did an awful job and could barely stand up. Booze? Drugs? Who knows? But, she was horrendous and I felt very sorry for Carly who was desperately trying to pretend this was a duet.

    There is something definitely over compensating in her performance. There are times when Carly looks at her with a concern that wasn’t about her … And then remembers to smile.

    That poor girl was trying to hold the whole performance together for both of them. Geez. LeeAnn needs to remove herself from the public eye for a year or two and get her stuff together. Goodness, that was painful from the second she stepped out.

    She should really be begging people to think she was drunk as a way of explaining how horrible that performance was. Seriously, it was bad.

    That poor kid didn’t have a chance. LeeAnne Rimes was so off key, balance, she was a mess.
    They gave the other contestants current performers and she got stuck with someone who only is relevant these days for her twitter comments. Carly was amazing and she will have a bright future even coming in second.

    I think LeaAnn totally hurt Carly’s chances – Carly did the best she could with that train wreck. They should have had Trisha Yearwood – her version the better one anyway (and the one actually used in the movie).

    I all most feel that the show under cut Carly, After all her income is limited by her age. She still has to finish school. She is the best talent on the show

    A hot mess. Drunk or not, she was desperately trying to out-sing Carly Rose with not-good, embarrassing results. The expressions on Sonenclar’s face in unguarded moments says it all.

    I certainly don’t think Rimes is Sonenclar’s “idol”, by any means, or picked her. I think it is far more likely she got “stuck” with her because either Rimes’ managment paid to get her a shot on a national TV show or it was simply the best X Factor could do this close to Christmas. I bet there’s a good story there and I’d love to know what it is.
