Leah Remini “The View” Video: I Was NOT “Expelled” From Scientology
Leah Remini said on Tuesday’s “The View” that she was NOT “expelled” from Scientology, despite claims from the Church. Watch below.
As Gossip Cop has reported, Remini is the midst of a press tour for her new book, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology. She’s candidly spoken about her decision to leave the religion in 2013 after 30 years of observance. But the Church has hit back, claiming she was actually expelled.
Asked by Whoopi Goldberg why that would be said, Remini responded, “It’s the game, I guess, which I don’t really want to be part of.” She specifically denied getting a “review of sorts,” as had been claimed in a statement to “The View,” and stressed that she’s not all about “bashing” Scientology.
“I can’t take away some of the positive, because it made me who I am today,” said Remini, noting how childhood lessons helped her with communication and confidence. “So I don’t want to sit here and bash something I spent my whole life in. The fact that I’m no longer there, it doesn’t take that way.”
That said, Remini argued, “You should be able to question an organization that you’ve been faithful to, that you’ve dedicated your life to, your family’s life to. And when you ask those questions, you shouldn’t then be punished.”
Though she spoke about Tom Cruise with Howard Stern earlier in the day, she brushed off co-host Michelle Collin’s attempts to discuss the superstar. Remini responded, “It’s not really about Tom. I know we’re making it about Tom. I can’t take away that Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise. I respect him as that.”
And she acknowledged that the Church comes after outspoken defectors like her. “You can’t be afraid. I’m not afraid. You can come after me. You can make the public statements that you need to,” said Remini.
She added, “My story’s been told. It’s my story. And it’s something I wanted to do to let people know I’m here, I’m okay.” Check out the full video below, and tell us what you think.
