Larry King on Piers Morgan: “I Don’t Know Him”
6:20 pm, July 14th, 2010
Larry King is less than sold on Piers Morgan, his presumptive replacement.
According to Forbes, King is mostly unfamiliar with the British TV personality’s work and would still like to see Ryan Seacrest take over when “Larry King Live” ends its CNN run.
“He’s my favorite,” King says of Seacrest. “It’s subjective because he’s my friend, but I think he’d be immediately accepted.” When asked about Seacrest’s strengths, King says, “The camera likes him and he’s a great generalist.”
King is not quite as enthusiastic about Morgan, widely speculated to replace him in CNN’s 9 o’clock hour.
“I’ve never seen him interview [anyone] but I hear he’s quite good. I don’t know him,” King says with regards to the “America’s Got Talent” judge. “Other than being a guest on my show, I’ve never watched ‘America’s Got Talent’ and I don’t know if I’d recognize him if he was walking down the street.”
King believes it will be important for Morgan to be original if he takes over the time slot.
“I don’t know what the show is going to be like or how they’re going to do it,” he says, “But the best advice I could give him, and I would give it to any talent, is be yourself. If you try to be someone else, it never works.”
