When relative newcomer Lana Del Rey was picked to be the musical guest on Daniel Radcliffe’s “Saturday Night Live,” many observers were unfamiliar with her music and wondered who she was.

After watching her performance on Saturday, at least some celebrity viewers are less than impressed.

Juliette Lewis slammed Del Rey on Twitter, writing, “Wow watching this ‘singer on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform. #signofourtimes.”

“Who…is…this wack-a-doodle chick performing on #SNL..? Whaaaa?” tweeted Eliza Dushku.

A legion of Del Rey fans quickly turned on Dushku, leading the actress to clarify that she didn’t mean anything nasty with her remark.

Del Rey is one of the only singers ever given the chance to perform on “SNL” before releasing a first album.

Check out her performance below.

I was dumbfounded last night. Who in the world is she? She was actually HORRIBLE.

  • http://twitter.com/KellyCEfron Nicole Miller

Her performance was wack, and I don’t understand what all the hype is over her. She does have an nice singing voice, her and her music are just flat out boring.

Give Lana Del Rey a chance, “Video Games” is a really good song…

  • Jeri1213

I agree, she was horrible. I fast forwarded through both performances after listening for a few seconds.

  • wawa

    i hate her

The first song selection could’ve been better, I’ll say that. The second song wasn’t nearly as bad, though it was… interesting. She sounds like she was nervous and who could blame her? She was on freaking Saturday Night Live before her album even released. That’s a pretty HUGE honor, even while it’s absolutely terrifying. These actors need to remember this. They’re in front of the camera all the time, but Lana Del Rey is not.

Yes it was horrible and she is either high, or extremely nervous…she couldn’t keep her hands off herself. Just WEIRD.

If she were on American Idol, she wouldn’t be going to Hollywood.

  • joyce

Never heard of her before this SNL performance. I thought she was horrible. To try and give her a chance since it was SNL I went and youtubed some of her other live performances. They were horrible too. Girl is off key and flat alot. Won’t probably listen to anything else by her. If they can’t actually sing live I’m not interested.

Just terrible ~ seriously. Lousy stage presence ~ bad choice of costuming and the music….well…that’s really bad too. Wow ~ SNL ~ ick.

  • http://twitter.com/mommadona mommadona

    No, it is not.

i think her problem was that she chose the wrong songs. Had she sang Off to the Races the audience would have liked it better

  • Xedos

The media always try to force these white artist down our throat. Keshawyn was the next idiot.

  • Sheelly

There was so much to dislike about the performance (and her). A sampling: her see-through dress; her talon-like nails; her wig-like, helmet hair; her flat voice; her oddly deep voice; her extraordinarily off-key notes (all notes sung in something other than her flat, deep voice); her dress’ inability to cover her bra; her nonstop touching of her thighs, breasts, and hair; the harp music; etc.

she must be related to someone on the show

She’s boring & sounded bad. I don’t think that Eliza Dushku should have had to explain what she meant, people swear like actors can’t have an opinion. Lana Del Rey has no stage presence at all, it’s like she’s singing karaoke at a night club, but those ‘singers’ do better on stage.

  • Hmm

That sounded like drunken karaoke- without the entertainment factor. Yikes. Dumb song too. Poor girl.

  • Mama2Jude1112

I’m not very familiar with her or her music. I feel that perhaps she picked the wrong songs to perform. I’m used to a much livelier performance from the musical guests on SNL. I’m not saying I hate her music, but I was not entertained by her performance on the show. It’s possible that she just hasn’t figured how out to perform in front of people, yet.

No wonder I had never heard of her. She picked two slow songs – not a good idea. Her voice is odd – it’d go high and then low and back again in the same sentence.

I went from being confused as to why she was singing about video games in such a fancy dress to wondering if she is purposely using Belinda Carlisle’s lyric.

Either way, I didn’t like her. I did not feel she was that great a singer.

  • Rachel

LOL I actually thought this was an SNL skit!

  • http://about.me/markedwards MarkEdwards

She’s the pet project of her label, Interscope. They’re doing everything they can to make her a star, but it’ll never happen. I wonder how much the label paid/gave/promised SNL to put her on. She certainly didn’t get the gig because of her talent or sales. She’s as manufactured as Milli Vanalli.

  • Ee

She has a very very rich father who is basically buying a career for her . A little more expensive than a car but the principle is the same.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqdAXdMhw8w MegO

You can make any excuse for her that you want but ultimately she was horrible and seemed unprepared! I’m also wondering why some people are trying to compare her to Florence + the Machine? I’m guessing cause she used a harp in her music as well but she is nowhere near the same calibre as Florence!

  • Stephanie

No her parents are mega rich so she had a shoe in

  • Jagger

It doesn’t matter which song she chose to sing, she always sounds like a robot. She didn’t seem nervous, she sounded just like she does on her cd. She’s just boring, one note.

I wanted so much to give her a chance. Really. It’s how I am. Initially, didn’t like that she was slammed by Juliette Lewis on Twitter as Juliette must know how hard it is to break into the “business” and shouldn’t jump on someone for one isolated performance.

Immediately noticed her perfect hair and her boring dress and thought maybe you guys are being hard on her due to her stylist — or lack of one. Then I heard her sing. Tried to think it was just the boring song choice that was the issue. While “boring song” is still a problem, it seems to be an exceptionally easy one to sing, not requiring much range, yet she still managed to fail miserably.

It makes so much sense now if it is true her daddy is trying to buy her a career. To his ears, his little baby girl probably sounds great, and if he has money and his little baby girl wants a career, he’ll use his money to buy one. Is that how the 1% do things? The “other 99%” must depend on true talent and luck.

LOL a skit would have made more sence

  • McManson

OMG!! WTF? HORRIBLE, terribly terrifying, awfully awful……I wonder how many people thought it was a skit at first??? Wait…Who are we talking about? Oh yeah, no one knows!!! It WAS bad.

  • McManson

I know! I cannot believe SNL had her on. Was every other musician in the world on vacation? Her performance was bad enough to boycott SNL!

  • McManson

I said the same thing! One of the guys doing a drag skit!! Ha Ha!
