Lana Del Rey: “I Slept With A Lot Of Guys In The Industry”
Lana Del Rey candidly opens up about her sex life and struggle with depression in the August/September issue of Complex. “I like a physical love. I like a hands-on love,” she tells the magazine before musing, “How can I say this without getting into too much trouble?” Del Rey continues, “I like a tangible, passionate love. For me, if it isn’t physical, I’m not interested.”
Asked about her song “F*cked My Way Up to the Top,” the singer says, “It’s commentary, like, ‘I know what you think of me,’ and I’m alluding to that.” “You know, I have slept with a lot of guys in the industry,” she admits, “but none of them helped me get my record deals. Which is annoying.”
Del Rey goes on to take responsibility for her failed engagement to Barrie-James O’Neill. “Definitely demolished that through tons of depression and insecurity. Now it’s just an untenable relationship, impossible because of my emotional instability,” she says.
The star further describes herself as “a little f*cked up,” and says that “this whole experience” of fame has “f*cked me up.” In fact, Del Rey is quick to qualify her success, despite scoring gold and platinum records. “I don’t feel like things have gone well. It’s not the way I would have chosen them to go,” she says. “So it’s not like I feel everything’s turned around and it’s great.” She continues, “I still didn’t find that community of people I was looking for, like the way Bob Dylan found his friends, or the respect of being a writer.” “Because that gold and platinum stuff, it doesn’t mean as much if you’re walking down the street and you can hear people saying things about you. That doesn’t even out,” adds the songstress.
