Anti-Lady Gaga Rally Held in Philippines

Dozens of teens in the Philippines held an anti-Lady Gaga rally in the capital city of Manila on Friday.

Chanting “Stop the Lady Gaga concerts,” the roughly 70 attendees were protesting the pop star’s upcoming shows, slated to take place on Monday and Tuesday.

The protesters, all members of the Christian group “Biblemode Youth Philippines,” said they objected to Gaga’s music, especially her song “Judas,” and wanted the concerts to be canceled.

The mayor of Pasay City, Antonino Calixto, said in a statement that he expects the shows to be held in accordance with government regulations.

“We reminded the producers of Lady Gaga’s concert that the show and the event as a whole shall not exhibit any nudity or lewd conduct which may be offensive to morals and good customs,”  said Calixto.

If Gaga performs “Judas,” however, former Philippine Congressman Benny Abante said he will try to have charges filed against the singer for offending religion.

The penalty ranges from six months to six years in prison.

Another protest and a candlelight vigil are expected to be held Saturday, reports the Associated Press.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, Gaga was recently forced to cancel her June 3 concert in Indonesia after government officials denied her a permit.

    Have these people listened to the song even? Songs not even about religion, Judas is a metaphor for still being in love with someone(probably her ex Luc) who is bad. It’s got nothing to do with the Biblical Judas. This is so stupid.

    GaGa is always pushing the envelope. When touring in foreign countries, its well to remember that the more culturally conservative powers may not be as tolerant is we are in the US. If she wants to perform, she has to play by their rules.

    whether they listened to this song or not. it’s judas. philippines religion is majority of christianity, they are also very conservative. so those people who protested against her doesn’t care about the meaning of the song, it’s the fact that JUDAS in filipino means a betrayer. it’s not stupid for them they are just fighting for what they believe in. the easiest way to solve this problem is for her to just not sing the song judas at all whatsoever.

    i bet only few were against lady gaga..i mean, her songs were not against the bible…if just come to think of it, even in the songs of some filipino singers/artists, they’d even use the same terms and even got bad words yet our own government or religious groups couldnt/wouldnt mind, why lady gaga? filipino fans were waiting for that event yet others are preventing the concert to happen, now who’s acting like shallow thinkers!? :p

    Shock value or not, those religious nutjobs need to mind their own business! – Accept that the world has moved on from medieval morals and some of us have even matured enough to know just how stupid all religion is, and we just want to have fun and enjoy our concerts in peace.

    So basically what you’re saying is that if a foreigner who’s name by chance is Judas because god knows what the parents were thinking at the time, decided to pay a visit WILL be a ridiculed religious outcast in the Philippines despite living a good life? Isn’t that precisely why it’s stupid? Fighting for what you believe in and being stupid is ONLY world’s apart if you have good reason behind your beliefs. If you are just blindly following your beliefs without actually having even a hint of what is going on then for me, that’s just plain idiotic.

    that’s what i’m pretty much saying. judas in the philippines has the same pronunciation of hudas, i don’t really know for sure if it came from judas, but hudas means a traitor, and judas did betray Jesus. look don’t get made at me, it’s the truth especially to those who are very very religious in the philippines, they are not going to be a fan of it. but there are others who doesn’t mind it.
