Lady Gaga Fires Back at PETA: I Do Not Support “Violent” & “Childish” Campaigns

Truth rating: 10

(GettyImages.com)

Lady Gaga is hitting back at PETA after the animal rights organization blasted the singer for wearing fur when she had said in the past she didn’t sport the material.

In an open letter to Gaga, PETA suggested the pop star was a “turncoat” for going back on her views, and compared her to “the mindless Kim Kardashian,” who was infamously flour bombed by a animal rights activist.

Now, Gaga is firing back at the organization — and defending Kardashian as well.

In a post on her website LittleMonsters.com, Gaga writes to her fans, “I want you to know that I care deeply about your feelings and views, and I will always support your philosophies about life.”

She adds, “I do not however support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for ANY CAUSE.”

“Particularly one that I respect. ‘Animal Rights.’ I am choosing not to comment on whether or not the furs I purchase are faux fur-pile or real because I would think it hypercritical not to acknowledge the python, ostrich, cow hide, leather, lamb, alligator, ‘kermit’ and not to mention meat, that I have already worn,” notes Gaga.

The “You and I” singer concludes, “I respect your views, please respect mine. And to campaigners, Save your flour to make bread for the children who are hungry. And Kim Kardashian is fabulous.”

What do you think about Gaga’s response to PETA?

I can’t believe PETA would go as far as do this to Gaga. It’s beyond sad that they tried to do this when the outfits ahve been confirmed faux.

    Team Gaga.

  • Daisy

    I like the ASPCA better.
They are not as extreme as PETA is.

  • Gir

of course she would think kim kardashawhore is fabulous

  • Taylor

PETA is too extremists, I 100& agree with not wearing furs, not eating meat etc. but you also have to agree with Gaga on this, they are childish and abusive.

  • Martina

Omg….this is not about PETA !!! This is about Gaga wearing fur!!!! She should be ashamed of herself and there is not way I will ever support any celebrity who is wearing a fur! Goodbye Gaga…….

This is about PETA & their antics. It’s one thing to warn people, but to constantly bully people & have the audacity to call them out of their names is going too far. PETA is full of bullies who use animal rights as a way to justify their actions. I don’t support Lady Gaga, but I do agree with her on this topic. If more people spoke out & rallied against them then they would stop.

Of course it’s about the attention whores that is PETA. Do you think it’s about animals? No, it’s all about them just getting publicity. Gaga shouldnt’ve responded to them, they’re idiots.

Team Gaga. Very classy response to an organization that likes to bully. I, too, support animal rights but I think PETA’s message gets lost sometimes in the drama they cause.

  • Vortextempest

if it wasnt for PETA who would be sticking up for the animals? they cant speak, someone has to speak for them. you heartless and selfish people who are ok with animal torture and abuse are sitting here hating on PETA but what are YOU doing to help those who are unable to help themselves (the animals)? if you were a fox or a mink you would be praying for PETA to help you but youre too busy thinking about me me and me to care about the suffering of others. Gaga, you lost me over this.i didnt take you to be heartless (and tacky) but it looks like you are both

  • Jennifer

PETA is a joke. Do you know how many of their animals they “euthanize” out of those which are annually brought to their “shelters” to be saved? Nearly 99%! Go take a look at their records! One of their founders even admitted in a recent interview that PETA is not interested in salvaging animals and finding them “forever homes”. Why, you may ask? Because what most people don’t understand is that PETA thinks that animals should only exist in the wild, in their natural habitats. They do not believe anyone should own pets, let alone raise livestock for food. If they ruled the world, they would take away your dogs, cats, gerbils, whatever and murder them to “let them be a peace” and would outlaw any “unnatural interactions” between humans and animals, to include having pets of any kind or eating meat, etc. These people are CRAAAAAZZZZYYY. I don’t know how else to put it.

  • Jennifer

Oh, boy… you haven’t done your homework. You have no idea whatsoever what PETA is really all about. These people are off the deep end and more lethal to animals than any neglectful owner could be. You need to go do some research. If I were a fox or a mink, I would be running the other way on my little legs as fast as I could because PETA would snatch me up and euthanize me immediately. By the admission of one of their own founders, PETA has ZERO interest in rehabilitating or rehoming lost, abandon or injured pets. Don’t EVER take an animal you can no longer care for to a PETA shelter! It’s an automatic death sentence. Like I said, go do your homework. You are in for a very unpleasant surprise.

  • andoutthere

There are extremists in every organisation. Religious or political. Taking off an animals fur is a violent act. They electrocute them by inserting a device into the anus of the animal. Or they are gassed. Both are not quick deaths. This is done do to not spoil the pelt. I think Lady Gaga would of been an amazing PETA spokesperson and her fur wearing has put her down in my estimations. Yes she does wear fur as seen in her latest pic at the Louis Vuitton shop.

I don’t condone violence but support PETA for its public face. What it’s individual members do is entirely up to them. PETA do not preach violence and cannot be held responsible for extremists.

  • andoutthere

Rehoming animals is not what PETA do just as Rehoming groups do not promote vegetarianism / veganism. PETA however put up rewards to find animal abusers.

i applaud this response. it’s awesome.

  • torquemada tea party

Stop talking such utter tripe and lying to boot. The coats in question are from Armani and Hermes and both are confirmed real fur. The former is rabbit, the second grey fox. You sad little Gaga fans need to get a grip and stop spreading lies for this furhag.

    Team Reason and Logic.

  • torquemada tea party

But what are your views on her wearing the furs of animals skinned alive?

Don’t get confused by her publicity tricks. She’s making this about Peta to deflect attention from the fact that she’s a shallow fur hag who couldn’t care less about the suffering of these animals. Big mistake. She should have been honest and said ‘sorry, no more fur for me’ but nope. Instead she’s decided to go on the defense and in doing so is making it more and more apparent that she is not only a thoroughly repugnant human being but that she couldn’t care less about her “little monsters” views or feelings either.

Blaming Peta for her shitty attitude to animals and her fans is missing the point completely.

  • torquemada tea party

Stop being stupid. Seriously. Seeing fur bitches as victims in this completely deluded.

  • Anonymous

So, you’re calling me stupid for not liking the way they’re handling their “cause”. That’s laughable. Calling someone a name for realizing how crazy PETA is shows how deluded you are.
I never said it’s okay to wear fur, but there are other ways to handle it & not the way PETA has been doing it lately. It’s bullying & it’s wrong.

  • Vortextempest

ignorance really is bliss isn’t it? how sad.

  • Radio Gaga

What ever animals they “save” from these abusers they euthanize in the end, healthy or not.

  • animalshavenofaith

Pray? I would think them atheist. That is, if they even had a thought on belief.
I love my dog but she doesn’t have one religious or existential thought in her head. How can i prove this? She is happy… And her only struggle: getting some spot on her ass.
PETA is… well… PETA ( It’s cool to believe in something. It’s not cool to tell me I have to believe in as fully as well- or at all.) Torture for the sake of torture is wrong ( Not inherently but decidedly ). GaGa is GaGa [pretty rad]. I Don’t know a thing about the Kardashians.
    *silence*
    This article was ridiculous.

    I admit, I was bored.

  • stupidladygaga

lady gaga is wearing fur with animal head..head..head..wat she is thinking about??..so cruel

  • Tominator

I love You, Gaga, in fur too, which is the expression of elegance!

  • EJ

I was just starting to like Lady Gaga for standing up and speaking out against bullying, etc. but now that I know that she supports the fur industry, which involves the inhumane treatment and torture of animals, she disgusts me. She is just another hippocrite who will do anything for fame and fortune. She doesn’t really care about the rights of animals, she cares about herself and her ability to make a new fashion statement every day.

  • EJ

That’s because PETA is not an animal shelter or rehabilitation center. In an ideal world they would do that in addition to what they already do, but they do not.

  • warmtrooper72

Gaga claimed she never would wear a fur. Now she does. That’s the definition of a hypocrite. PeTA just called it.

  • warmtrooper72

Jennifer YOU are an idiot. First of all, PETA is NOT an animal shelter. Who told you that? People dumping their unwanted pets on their headquarter’s lawn in Virginia??? What are they supposed to do with that? If they used their funds to build animal shelters for all those pets, they’d get sued. Got it? As for CRAAzzy…I DARE you to watch a video of a factory chicken farm and what happens to little baby chicks, and then get back to me about the “appropriate” response to this horrific criminal enterprise. PETA must rely on certain tactics since most Americans, like you, are completely IGNORANT of how animals are treated in this country, and others. As far as pets, Americans can’t even stop buying pets from breeders and puppy mills, and they are too stupid to spay/neuter them. RESULT? Thousands of unwanted animals at shelters. Whose fault is THAT? Not PETAs. Stupid Americans.

  • warmtrooper72

Yeah, Gaga is no attention whore.

  • warmtrooper72

As I said, Jennifer, PETA is NOT a nationwide animal shelter. Keep being ignorant, though, if it makes you feel better. Why not drop off our aging elders at the AARP headquarters? If they don’t take them in and house them, then I guess AARP doesn’t care about old people? So stupid!

  • warmtrooper72

PETA has tried to find homes for many of those pets that were unceremoniously dumped on their VA headquarters. They had no choice but to euthanize the rest. They’re not a shelter charity; they could get sued for using their donations to create shelters. DOES EVERYONE UNDERSTAND THIS FINALLY?

  • warmtrooper72

shallow fur hag! ha ha that’s right!

  • threenorns

so you support an agency that kills 90% of the animals entrusted to it to find homes.

says a lot about you, that does.

  • threenorns

if peta is not an animal shelter, why do they accept animals, telling the owners they will find them homes? a veterinarian gave them a mother cat with two kittens, all perfectly adoptable – the cats were dead before the van left the parking lot.

just one incident had peta charged with 31 counts of felony animal abuse over the way they killed the animals and then were dumping the bodies all over the county.

peta are hypocrites, plain and simple, and thus have washed any credibility out of their message.

and i’ll tell you something: next time peta targets my kid’s school (JK to grade 2!) with signs telling them they’re killing baby cows by stealing milk? i’m gonna aim my car at them and personally research how much speed they can get out of a vegan diet.

  • threenorns

at least she delivers value, since her commodity is entertainment and she is definitely entertaining.

  • threenorns

then explain why they WENT TO a veterinarian’s office to pick up two kittens and the mother, all perfectly adoptable, telling the vet they’d find them homes – only have the cats dead before they left the parking lot?

    this is from peta’s website:

PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns

note the “animal rescue”? it doesn’t say “animal rescue – except for dogs and cats”, does it.

this is their official response to “couldn’t we just build more shelters instead of euthanizing dogs and cats?”

A shelter should be a temporary compromise for dogs and cats. It is not a solution to companion animal homelessness. Dogs and cats need more than food, water, and shelter from the elements. They need and deserve loving care, regular human companionship, respect for their individuality, and the opportunity to play and run. As difficult as it may be for us to accept, euthanasia (carried out by veterinarians or shelter staff trained in intravenous injection of sodium pentobarbital) is often the most compassionate and dignified way for unwanted animals to leave this uncaring world.

easy to hold that view if you’re killing them before they even have a chance to find out if someone wants them, isn’t it?
