Lady Gaga On Kesha: “Why Is The Victim Always The Liar?”
As Gossip Cop has reported, Gaga is one of the stars who have voiced support for Kesha as she and Dr. Luke engage in dueling lawsuits. Kesha has accused him of physically and sexually abusing her, while he has alleged she made the claims up as part of an extortion plot. As the case continues to unfold, there’s been a lot of debate about what, and who, to believe.
Now in an Instagram post Thursday morning, Gaga is hitting back at all who are doubting Kesha’s story and those of other abuse victims. She writes, “This is the most upsetting part for me. The very reason women don’t speak up for years is the fear that no one will believe them or their abuser has threatened their life or life of their loved ones/livelihood in order to keep their victim quiet and under control.”
“What happened to Kesha has happened to many female artists, including myself, and it will affect her for the rest of her lifes,” writes Gaga, who has spoken in the past about being raped. “No one needs to validate Kesha. Why is victim always the ‘liar’? Why do we let people in a position of power get away with behaving inhumanely?”
Gaga goes on, “These guys hide behind the legal system and it’s their litigious behavior that is precisely what they use to rape these girls. ‘Give me what I want or else I will come after you’ and they have all the money and the resources to do it.” She adds, “Listen and Love. #stopvictimshaming.”
Prior to the post, Gaga also shared the above photo with Kesha, with a “Free Kesha” caption, and reposted a supportive message from Gavin Newsom, the lieutenant governor of California. See his comments below.
