Lady Gaga Visits Julian Assange, Controversial WikiLeaks Founder (PHOTO)

Truth rating: 10

(Lady Gaga)

Lady Gaga visited controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy in London on Monday.

According to reports, the singer spent about five hours with the embattled Assange, who has been holed up in the building since June while claiming political asylum.

Gaga’s reasons for visiting Assange are not entirely clear, although the visit came after fellow performer M.I.A. tweeted to Gaga on Sunday, “if ur at harrods today, come visit Assange at the Ecuador embassy across the st. im there. ill bring TEA and CAKE.”

It’s not been confirmed whether M.I.A. was on hand for Gaga’s face-to-face with Assange.

Gaga is said to have entered the embassy around 7:00 p.m., leaving shortly after midnight.

Assange is at the embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he’s wanted for questioning on sexual abuse allegations.

His legal team fears that Sweden would subsequently send him to the United States, where his leaking of secret documents and cables has posed problems for the government.

Sorry but I’m just not a supporter of Assange. I won’t judge him about the sexual abuse allegations yet because I don’t know if it’s true, they are just allegations at this point. But, the leaking of info comes with it a responsibility for the damage that can be caused and he leaked top secret classified documents that potentially compromises diplomatic negotiations and potentially risks the safety of countless people. Transparency is a good thing and I support it in principle, but you can’t be transparent with everything. You do have to look at reasons why something is classified and what are the risks with publishing the info. The information published by Assange didn’t raise the level of public discourse, but it did undermine a government’s position in diplomatic negotiations and potential endanger people. With no real positive to be gained other than it becoming part of the public domain, you don’t publish it.

Hey are you going to be posting the photos of her with Yoko Ono winning the LennonOno peace award too?

So in your opinion you believe it is fine for governments to do whatever they feel, that citizens
have no right to know what their government is really up to. That a
Government can slap a classified sign on anything they want to prevent
the general public from knowing the truth? Well, that goes against
everything everything that freedom of information is about. The
accusations that have been concocted against Assange,
are just that, false accusations designed so that the American
Government can get their hands on a man who has not broken any
international laws. Sweden will surly hand him over to America where he
will likely be charged with terrorism and treason.
If you believe that American government is just,
in the smear campaign against an innocent man, then I think you need to
take a step back and really be worried about the fact that the government body of
a country feels they have the right to charge any innocent person with
any crime that they see fit. What happens if next time they set their
    eyes on you.
    Fact is Assange
is pretty much a political prisoner. He can’t go anywhere in fear of
his extradition to America. A place where they just can’t wait to get
their hands on him so he will be silenced from informing the world of
the truths that governments around the world would rather the general
public from knowing. Personally I would rather know the truth then be kept in the dark. Assange is innocent and should be set free!
