Sharon Osbourne Slams Lady Gaga Amid Singer’s Feud With Daughter Kelly

Truth rating: 10

A major feud is heating up between Lady Gaga and the Osbourne family, after the pop star traded barbs with Kelly and Sharon Osbourne on Thursday.

The drama dates back to last year when Kelly criticized Gaga for skipping the Grammys red carpet, and was subsequently barraged with nasty tweets from the singer’s fans.

Last fall, Gaga’s fans again ripped Osbourne after the “Fashion Police” personality made a comment about the star’s much talked-about weight gain.

On Thursday, Sharon got into the mix, e-mailing Gaga’s manager to see if the singer would encourage fans to leave Kelly alone.

That did not sit well with Gaga, who posted an open letter to Kelly on LittleMonsters.com, criticizing Osbourne for not reaching out “personally,” and blasting her “Fashion Police” work as “rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.”

READ THE FULL LETTERS BELOW

Gaga pointed out what she believes is Kelly’s hypocrisy, and told her, “I urge you to take responsibility and accountability for the example that you are setting for young people.”

The missive prompted Sharon to respond with her own open letter on Facebook.

“Your open letter is hypocritical and full of contradictions,” Sharon wrote to Gaga, going on to call the singer a “bully.”

“The Talk” co-host slammed the songstress for wearing fur, and accused her Little Monsters fanbase of also being “vile” to “other celebrities such as Madonna, Adele and Rihanna.”

Sharon implored Gaga to “stop wearing fur, stop looking for publicity, and stop using your fans to belittle not just Kelly but an endless stream of celebrities. A word from you would stop all the hideous, negative and vile threats from your ‘little monsters.’”

Kelly herself gave a much shorter response on Twitter Thursday night, simply writing, “I hope you guys realize that I don’t care about any of this bullshit! I know who I am I don’t need anyone to tell me!… love to all xoxo.”

LADY GAGA’S OPEN LETTER TO KELLY OSBOURNE

Dear Kelly, While I wish you had reached out to me personally, as the head of the Born This Way foundation with my mother Cynthia we would like to respond. Everyday, through my music and public voice I choose to be positive and work towards a kinder and braver world with our community of followers. I encourage them to ignore criticism, stand up to bullies, know their own value and see that we are all the same and no one person is worth more than another.

I know I’m perceived as a wild child, but in reality I am woman that deeply cares for humanity. I have empathy for you Kelly, but I feel it culturally important to note that you have chosen a less compassionate path. Your work on E! with the Fashion Police is rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another. “Appearance” is the most used reason for bullying in the world. Your show breeds negativity, and over the years has even become comedic in nature. It glorifies you and Joan Rivers pointing in the camera, laughing, and making jokes about artists and celebrities as if we are zoo animals.

What about your body revolution? It used to make me truly sad when I would hear people talk about your weight when you were younger, as I was bullied too. To see you blossoming into a beautiful slender woman who makes fun of others for a living is astounding. Why not help others? Why not defend others who are bullied for their image and share your story? I am pointing this out not to take a crack at your character, as we’ve met before and you’re lovely.

However, I urge you to take responsibility and accountability for the example that you are setting for young people. They look up to you because you are famous, and if you treat others that way on TV, many adolescents at home on twitter assume your actions are acceptable: well if she does it, why can’t I? I cannot control my fans, and I discourage them from any negativity and violence, because that is wrong and hurtful — and I do feel baldy that your feelings were hurt.

However, we can all do our part in the media to set a standard of respect, compassion, and love. I wish for you to be treated with the kindness and respect that everyone deserves. While some of my fans have learning to do, most of them share the same values as I, and it’s what bonds us together. And that bond is strong. Sincerely Gaga and Cynthia www.bornthiswayfoundation.org

PS. And to any media or celebrities that happen to find this letter in their path, I hope you, too, consider the power of your voices. Lets work together and make 2013 a year of unity.

SHARON OSBOURNE’S OPEN LETTER TO LADY GAGA

Ms. Gaga,

I am responding to your open letter to my daughter Kelly, and I am perplexed as to why you would go public with an open letter. Regarding this current situation; Kelly didn’t contact you, I was the one that contacted your manager today and the email is attached below for your reference.

I reached out to him as Kelly’s manager and mother to ask him if you could address your “little monster” fans and stop them from writing libelous, slanderous and vile comments about my family, including death threats to Kelly. Your open letter is hypocritical and full of contradictions. And as your mother Cynthia supports you, I support my daughter Kelly. I must say your opinions on what is politically correct and acceptable totally differ from mine, but that is what makes the world so interesting…we are all different.

How sweet that you have empathy for my daughter, as you feel that she has taken a less passionate path in life. You say her work on E! with the Fashion Police is “rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.” Welcome to the real world.

Example, when I saw you wear a dress made out of raw meat, I was sickened. When I see you wearing fur, and using it as a fashion statement, the fact that defenseless animals have been killed so you can get your picture in the press is abhorrent to me. Shouldn’t you be teaching your “little monster” fans to respect animals and life? I don’t feel I have to justify Kelly’s choices in life to you. By your actions to Kelly right now, you have shown me that you are nothing more than a publicly seeking hypocrite and an attention seeker. You know it would have been much more dignified of you to do this privately. I am calling you a bully because you have 32 million followers hanging on your every word and you are criticizing Kelly in your open letter. Are you so desperate that you needed to make this public?

You state “Everyday, through my music and public voice I choose to be positive and work towards a kinder and braver world with our community of followers.” Well this obviously is not translating well to your fans, as a large portion of them have not only been vile to Kelly, but also other celebrities such as Madonna, Adele and Rihanna. “You say a kinder, braver world” I don’t know what world you live in, but supporting disgraceful fan comments doesn’t fall under the words “kinder and braver.” It comes under the heading of bullsh*t.

In closing, stop wearing fur, stop looking for publicity, and stop using your fans to belittle not just Kelly but an endless stream of celebrities. A word from you would stop all the hideous, negative and vile threats from your “little monsters.” Let me know if you want to continue this debate. I’m an open playing field for you my darling.

Sincerely,
Sharon Osbourne

Dear Vince,

You might recall that I wrote to you last year about Gaga’s fans bullying Kelly which you never really responded to. Well, it’s continuing again. I want you to read the blog below from a Lady Gaga fan.

I thought that Gaga was a main campaigner against bullying.

Vince, I’m leaving it in your hands to do the right thing here. One tweet from Gaga can change this whole situation. I’m not asking her to deal with this directly but she if she could tweet something to her fans about being more respectful that may end this. I’m sure she doesn’t condone her fans saying such hideously offensive things.

Wishing you and your family the best in 2013.

All the best,

Sharon

They’re all attention seeking hypocrites if you ask me.

BUT GaGas fans are out of control. Who tells another person to kill themselves for really no good reason other than being a fan of someone else (not that there is a good reason)?

Twitter and other social media have turn people into heartless, faceless douches.

  • WTF Sharon

Sharon is a dick. Who are these people except a wife and daughter of an old famous singer and dare to insult a hard working, educated singer like GaGa, GEEZ!

  • Rose

I am so tired of Sharon osbourne and her progeny. She is a bully too. Probably more so than her daughter. Look, nuts abound. we see them here, all the time, hating some famous stranger. I personally. Don’t care for gaga, but I care for the osborns less. Sharon was telling the world beiber was going to be washed up soon, her daughter in law, recently attacked Taylor swift. I won’t watch fashion police because it is so viley mean. Osborn has a lot of nerve to pitch a fit. But I think it all for publicity, don’t you? Being mean and critical ‘for a living’ Osborn can’t be serious, right?

  • DF

With this limited amount of info, I would side with Gaga, I think that Fashion Poilice is vicious and degrading.

  • Truth

Oh brother. They should all get over themselves. Today’s celebrities are so trashy and self righteous. Most of them are dumber than a bag of hammers which makes me cringe that they feel responsible for setting good examples for other peoples kids. If my children ever relied on an actor or pop star for setting examples I would punch myself in the face and hand in my parent card.

  • ivan

I like Gaga more. the Osbournes appear arrogant and have been nasty to others. Gaga, however, appears to be a nice person even if she may be a bit overrated as a singer.

  • Paul

Sharon Osbourne is an idiot but Gaga is an even bigger idiot and her fans are nothing more than a bunch of silly little kids. Celebrity culture is out of control at this point, whether it be Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber or Rihanna, they are all just people, their shit stinks just like the rest of us, get over them.

Lady Gaga is evil, kelly and sharon osborne are just annoying.

  • cora

I’m not a fan of Gaga, but I feel like Sharon is the bigger hypocrite here. She’s the first one to shed big crocodile tears when anyone says bad things about her children, but then gets overly defensive when her bratty adult children insult others (as they constantly do). Lady Gaga is a hypocrite to her fans and to the media about her choices regarding PETA and other petty things, but has always advocated anti-bullying. She cannot physically control what her idiot fans write to other people on social media outlets, but by posting letters like this, she’s encouraging mutual understanding and respect. She’s a famewhore but she’s not a famewhore publicly insulting others and it’s not really her fault that her immature fans decided to cyber bully. She has discouraged it over and over. They’re mostly kids who get worked up and don’t have the aptitude for proper conflict resolution beyond immature attacks. That’s their parent’s responsibility and their own, not an idiotic popstar wearing meat. She clearly has her own problems and controlling other people’s idiot kids isn’t one of them. Welcome to the real world (and the internet).

    GAGA fan…I don,t care about next…

  • Lindsey

Uh I definitely side with the Osbournes on this one. Gaga complains that Kelly didn’t come directly to her about it, then posts an open letter? Yeah, that makes sense. Sharon’s letter is right on. And I haven’t really watched a lot of Fashion Police, but my guess is it’s about FASHION, not “haha, look at her she looks fat”.

    Cannot stand GaGa.

  • TJ

They’re both attention seeking hypocrites. However, in this particular round I agree with Sharon. She sent a private message nicely asking Gaga to ask her fans to stop. Gaga didn’t have to reply in an open letter, in all honesty all that did was escalate the problem, now they’re sending more threats. That is a form of bullying. Even though she might not be doing a direct vicious attack, she knows (or should know considering their “strong bond”) what her fans are like & how they’ll respond. Her “no bullying” campaign & her trying to fix the bullying problem is all fine & dandy, but she needs to start in her own circle. Her team & fans (some of which she even follows) are bullies. Are Sharon & Kelly bullies in their own right? absolutely. However, Gaga telling other artists & fan bases not to bully while letting her own do it constantly, is also hypocritical.

  • ee

Gaga’s letter was actually quite polite. sharons a bit of an idiot considering the fact that kelly is the one that picked on her first and hasnt even got the guts to make an apology. gaga’s letter has opened my eyes….i was a big fan of kelly and fashion police, after reading that its made me think of how they do pick on people, sure its entertaining but like gaga said if teens see them doing it, they copy, hence theres bullying.
Surely after Kelly being picked on would give her some sense not to do it to others? remember when Kelly got called fat? she felt awful, imagine how gaga feels? after kelly did get call fat by christina agulera, joan and kelly would make jokes about her, after reading this i think that was kind of out of order….kelly just looks like a hypocrite.
i have so much respect for lady gaga after reading her letter, im glad it was an open letter!!!

  • ee

I SWEAR SHARON SAID SHES AGAINST BULLYING, then why in her letter did she write about her being ‘sickened’ by gaga’s outfit, so it fine when sharon says stuff but not when gaga’s fans are sticking up for her?hmmmmmm
teach your daughter some respect, after being bullied herself she critizes other people…..shes a hypocrite, and you call gaga one, shame on you.

  • ee

from sharons letter: ‘You say her work on E! with the Fashion Police is “rooted in
criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.”
Welcome to the real world.’ – the world doesnt have to be like that, it just is because of arrogant people. why rate other peoples beauty, not as if anyone on fashion police is perfect, to think you support that makes me feel digusted, what has the world come to?!

  • Catherine

I wouldn’t call either Lady Gaga or Sharon Osbourne an idiot – they are both extremely intelligent. Lady Gaga had a point with her comments about Kelly, and the fact she can’t control her fans but tries to set an example that it’s not acceptable. Sharon’s point that what is acceptable behavior is relative and that for her wearing fur is more offensive is a bit off base though. The whole issue was started over comments made by Gaga’s fans towards Kelly and Gaga’s basic point back is she can’t control what her fans say but Kelly can control what she chooses to say on her show, a show whose entire basis is predicated on making fun of how people dress. To write back and call Gaga hypocritical because of what Gaga chooses to wear both completely misses the point and illogical. Criticizing people for what they choose to wear is exactly what Gaga took issue with. If Gaga was hypocritical, it would be if she criticized Kelly for what she chooses to wear.

    Team Sharon.

Sorry, but I’m with Sharon on this one. All the way.

Several vapid personalities sniping at each other? Blahblahblah. Have they ever even met?

  • dannehlicious

I completely agree with Gaga here. Kelly Osbourne used to be overweight and now that she is skinny, she likes to talk down on people. Saying “oh so and so used to call me fat so now I can call them fat” isn’t an excuse. Be the bigger person! You don’t have to knock down someone’s appearance to be funny.

  • http://www.facebook.com/crizomar Crizomar DaSilva

the osborne, who do they think they are? they belong to long time ago,and kelly is a bully, as the old joan rivers they make fun, call people names and get away with it ,thank you crazy gaga to speak-up against the painted ugly kelly osborne.

  • gen

I love Gaga, but it would have been so much easier to just have sent a tweet reminding her fans to be respectful. Gaga always preaches about kindness and even if she doesn’t like Kelly it would have been much easier to have just sent 1 tweet instead of writing a huge letter.

  • just saying

Rose your right on with your comments. Kelly is a big girl & if she can dish it she can take it & should take it. Fashion star is not humor & who made any of them fashion stylists in the first place. They degrade & make fun of many & JOan is the biggest bully outh there hiding behind humor (so called humor) Kelly is absolutley following Joan. Sharon needs to shut it she is way out of line I dont care if its her daughter or not.. Milking for attention Sharon does best. I used to really like her but not anymore & not for sometime.. No wonder her & Stern didnt get along

  • Me

At least Gaga earned her fame. Unlike Sharon and Kelly who rode Ozzys coattails.

  • Linda

I applaud Gaga for calling out Osbourne and Rivers for their hurtful bullying. They act disgusting.

  • http://twitter.com/ladylycanthrope Amber

While I love Sharon and Gaga both, I would have to agree with Gaga here. She put it publicly just so people would know she is being sincere and trying to end the feud. Sharon’s response was nothing but ugly and hurtful, she had a chance to be the bigger person and just say “Ok, we’ll stop this feud if you would at least talk to your fans about bullying” (which Gaga has done several times on Twitter, Facebook, her website, etc). It’s all about being polite and getting things sorted out in a reasonable manner. Sharon just screwed up royally.

  • pks

Geez…the Osbournes are total and complete bullies! Do they plan to picks fights with everyone in Hollywood?! This is what happens to “have beens” when they desperately need publicity.

  • Sadie

Ummmmmm Sharon created Ozzy. She was a dynamic manager and without her Ozzy would be just another DEAD rocker. Mrs.O is a true rock godess! Go Mama O!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001341530228 Michelle Cooper

Umm…no. Sharon’s father had a business that managed Ozzy starting in the 70′s. Black Sabbath, formed in 1969, was already big and had recorded their first album. Sharon didn’t start managing him until 1979.. She didn’t create him. He continued getting bigger in the music world despite Sharon..

  • GooglyMoogly

Not just Gaga’s fans, fans of every celebrity has gone after people they perceive to have ‘wronged’ their idol. The computer generation feel they can say and do what they want without consequence because they are nameless and faceless on the internet. It’s a shame really.

  • Alexander

Team Sharon! She had sent an e-mail last year which they ignored… And I agree when Sharon says that Gaga’s letter is full of contradictions.

  • ee

too true, i hope the osbournes read your comment and see what they are doing…ALL OF THEM!

  • Rose

I know one thing, ee….she’s looking at a hornets nest riling up gaga’s fan base. The Osborn’s are small potatoes when it comes to their ‘support system.’ the monsters will now seek and destroy. They aren’t doing kelly any favors.

I liked chubby Kelly a lot better. She was funny and sweet.

  • Rose

And she(Joan) is nasty. I cannot abide how nasty she is.

  • Rose

You make me think..even when Kelly is ‘not being rude’ on fashion police, she giggles like Joan rivers is just tooooooo funny, as she destroys people with her mouth. Being a party to someone else doing the name calling, makes you just as guilty and culpable.

  • SheBeMe

Okay Sharon Osborne…celebrities are not responsible for the behavior of all of their fans. Gaga has posted many times and even in her open letter she says she wants everyone to be positive. Kelly has to have a thick skin. She laughs and jokes and criticizes other people every week on her show. How can she then get in a tizzy over some pop artist fans who slam you online? As your mother said “welcome to the real world.” I am almost certain Sharon did not read that open letter, she likely skimmed it and then responded because the only response I see that is steeped in hypocrisy is from Ms. Osborne….

  • ron

I have heard Sharon and Kelly call people ugly publicly,I have heard Sharon cut up LADY GAGA and SUSAN BOYLE saying they were both hit by the UGLY STICK!Sharon is not tight liped as far as it go’s criticizing others looks PUBLICLY,Now i see Sharon using a tv show she is on to slander Lady GAGA’s good name and hurting her career ,from what i see is Lady GAGA did nothing wrong and owes the OSBOURNES nothing in return,I’m wondering why LADY GAGA is not taking legal action against the OSBOURNES,I feel if GAGA did seek legal action it would be a open closed case, and i believe GAGA could be entitled to 30 to 80 million dollars in damages considering her yearly income and the way this big mouth Sharon has been using Cable and TV too slander her,I guess British people think Americans are stuped and they can come here and do or say what thay want,LAWSUIT would look good on them LIMEY”S
