Kyra Sedgwick Pushed Tom Cruise’s Button… 20 Years Ago

Given how sloppy the tabloids’ reporting is, this particularly embarrassing gaffe is way less surprising than it should be.
According to the National Enquirer, Kyra Sedgwick “recently” got Tom Cruise “into trouble with the police” after accidentally pushing a panic button in his home.
The incident supposedly happened “during a party Cruise threw with his wife Katie Holmes.”
The tab claims Sedgwick noticed a mysterious button on the mantel and decided to give it a tap.
“Nothing happened,” reports the Enquirer, but Cruise was “horrified” according to a source for the tab, explaining to Sedgwick that she’d activated a silent panic alarm.
“Minutes later, the place was swarming with cops who refused to leave until Tom assured them everything was OK,” continues the story.
It’s a good one, too, except for one tiny problem.
This didn’t happen “recently.”
This didn’t happen at a party Cruise threw “with his wife Katie Holmes.”
It happened almost twenty years ago.
Sedgwick happened to recall the long, long, long-ago incident on a talk show that someone at the Enquirer happened to catch. And the tab printed it as if it just occurred.
Once again, when it came to actual reporting, the mag “panicked,” so Gossip Cop has to sound the alarm.
