‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ Kicks ‘The Revenant’ Out Of Weekend Box Office Top Spot
Kung Fu Panda 3, the third installment starring Jack Black and Jackie Chan, kicked The Revenant out of the top spot at the box office during its debut weekend. The animated sequel earned $41 million.
Coming in second was last winner’s winner, The Revenant. The movie, which has garnered Leonardo DiCaprio several awards nominations, as well as a win on Saturday night at the SAG Awards, made $12.4 million. And Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which has already broken a slew of records, added more to its nearly $900 million in ticket sales. In its seventh week in theaters, the film took in another $10.8 million and third place.
The sea adventure film The Finest Hours, starring Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, and Eric Bana, made moderate waves at the box office, earning $10.3 million and fourth place. And Ride Along 2, which again teams up Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, brought in another $8.3 million in the fifth position.
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Boy in sixth place with $7.9 million, followed by the Zac Efron and Robert De Niro starrer Dirty Grandpa in seventh with $7.6 million. Securing eighth place was The 5th Wave with a weekend haul of $7 million, while the Marlon Wayans spoof movie, Fifty Shades Of Black earned ninth place and $6.2 million. And just making it into the Top 10 was 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi with a box office take of $6 million.
