No Kristen Stewart vs. Blake Lively “Vogue” Cover Clash

Truth rating: 0

The release of Blake Lively‘s cover photo spread for the June issue of Vogue raised eyebrows in certain corners, where it had been speculated that Kristen Stewart would be next month’s cover subject.

Supposedly, Stewart’s stubborn refusal to open the interview to questions about her personal life led Vogue editor Anna Wintour to bump the Eclipse star from the mag’s cover.

But Lively did not “replace” Stewart after any kind of power struggle between the latter and Wintour.

A rep for Stewart tells Gossip Cop there was no June cover bump because she was never expected to be on the June cover.

Stewart’s rumored Vogue cover was nothing more than speculation from the start.

She did shoot a long-planned Elle cover for June and a two-page story for Vogue.

As it happens, those two pages originally were scheduled to run in Vogue‘s July issue, a Stewart source confirms to Gossip Cop. The article was actually moved up a month.

According to a rep for Vogue, reports that a Stewart cover had been pulled are “fabricated” and “not true.”

There’s also a basic governing principle in play here: Competing magazines do not want to have the same person on their covers in the same month. As preeminent media columnist Keith Kelly of the New York Post tells Gossip Cop, stars like Stewart “can’t go on any other magazine” at the time of another scheduled cover in the genre. “No editor in their right mind would go for that.”

OMG! Kristen must supposed to be on the cover of the magazine! How can Blake Lively to be there? OMG! That’s so sad. Im sure Kristen is sad too!

  • alynn

Sucks to be Wintour this month then.

  • alynn

I’d be reintroduced to Vogue with a Stewart shoot. How awesome would that be for Vogue? Some people of a certain age just don’t seem to get it. Stewart is unlike other celebrity and it transcends prior molds. That’s her draw and why she’s mad steezy, or America’s sweet punk spiritual little sister. It’ll take the machine some time to figure it out if they ever do. Indie, unique or authentic emo isn’t something you can sell in the dinosaur marketing ways of the past. It’s just difficult to capture, but they try…

Kristen belongs with the Vivianne Westwoods of the world – a bright quasar outside of the regular universe anyway.

  • Athenea

Guess what VOGUE? I will buy your very expensive (and full of advertising) Magazine if the cover has someone interesting and unique..but BLAKE Gossip-Girl Lively? Well, probably she yapped a LOT about the boring BF and her only talent: being beautiful. I’m preparing to be enthralled with Blake’s deep thoughts in my local Border’s, because i won’t buy this stupid magazine..i’ll go with Elle, since even when bitchfacing, Kristen looks like 10000X times more interesting than Blake

  • JesseCollins

Wow. Wintour is proving she’s more and more out of touch with life as we know it, each passing minute. Hey Anna, how about bumping Angelina Jolie for Patricia Heaton next month?! LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Boyc-Ottintouch/100000959565312 Boyc Ottintouch

Anna Wintour is showing that she’s frighteningly out of touch. You have a film star whose billion dollar grossing epic romance that women 8 to 80 adore, that’s breaking wide next month to a salivating worldwide frenzy and a TV actress no one knows whose on summer hiatus….hmmmm….what DO you do Anna, what DO you do? lol Maybe next month Anna can bump Angelina Jolie for Patricia Heaton.

  • EmmaJones

I hope that explanation about Kristen Stewart missing on the cover of June Vogue is TRUE. I hate to see it otherwise. How about that credit for Stewart: after her role in the Runaways this young lady endured endless gay bashing- just for daring to play a gay woman- rocker butch. She has cut her hair for that indi movie that raised more than one eyebrow. Has been called a dyke and any other vile word known to Webster for betraying the idealistic Bella and every time she travel in jeans and sneaker on(that means all the time) Who did it? Young homophobic bigots, the new generating of haters in waiting. About Stewart approach to acting one can read more in June Elle magazine. Starved herself to get the feeling of her character of troubled teen in Welcome to Raley.(opens in November) She is a straight martyr for the gay causes. The true being, flash, soul and all human faults. One of the kind. She has an aura of her own and one doesn’t need to call on Robert Pattison to showcase that unique human being. Take it from 46 years old woman, mother of 2, New Yorker.
Too bad Vogue missed that opportunity.

  • Ellisabetta

Anna Wintour made the right choice. Kristen Stewart does not sell magazines especially fashion magaizines. The interest is only in her realtionship with Pattinson.

  • alynn

Though you are entitled to it, the near whole of the fashion industry from Preen, Azrouel, Louboutin, Renato Campora, Dolce & Gabbana, Lhuillier, Paule Ka, Hervé Leroux, Balenciaga, Pucci Tallulah, Marchesa, J. Mendel, Stella McCartney, Rock and Republic, Derek Lam, Vera Wang, Burberry, Do.Ri, Chanel and magazine profits worldwide from People to Elle, Vanity Fair and even Vogue disagree with your opinion Ellisabetta. They are chomping at the bit for a bite of Stew – draping her, styling her, photographing and publishing her.

I’m just naming a few because my fingers are sore now. When you get out from under that rock you could look into it yourself. I won’t even comment on your Pattinson assertion because it’s too silly to address.

  • carolina22

Well in my opinion giving Blake Lively her 2nd Vogue cover will taint the brand. It used to be an honor to get the cover, now anyone can get it. No offense, I dont hate Blake, but what has she done other than gossip girl lately that deserves 2 VOGUE covers? Shes just known for looking hot, no real talent. Anna Wintour also gave a cover to Jessica Biel a while ago. Ew.

Annas losing her touch. Everyone knows Blake is Weinsteins new girl. Maybe thats how it happened.

NO matter what really happened…i dobt kristen cares. Shes not into the fashion stuff or media side of this so its safe to say shes not cursing anna wintour and crying into her pillow tonight.

plus, i think they wanted a summer beach shoot. could you picture kristen in a bikini with a surfboard like blake? no.

btw, when it comes to gossipgirl, leighton > blake. did she get a cover?

  • susiedolly

I wonder if those who say they would have bought Vogue if Kristen was on the cover actually coughed up money to see The Runaways? It’s pretty obvious few people did. She appeared to be the equivalent of the iceberg to the Titanic as far as the film was concerned. Perhaps Anna Wintour feared she’d have the same glacial effect on Vogue? KS only appears interesting to the public when she is paired with Sparkle Bottom and I suspect the reason for considering her for the cover was not just tying in with Eclipse’s release but also the anticipation that her TWIT Saga fans would have followed her to The Runaways. That didn’t happen. She persists in appearing in films no one wants to see and I fear the $25M support for On the Road might as well have been thrown down the drain as many of its potential audience are already dead, and if you’ve already read the book why see the film – with its plethora of ‘non stars’. She lacks ‘A’ list film offers due to her ‘I’m too good for this’ air, yet Sparkle Bottom is inundated with offers of work with top-flight actors and she gets the has-beens and nobodies. I suspect that when BD is finished her career will slide inexorably down the lavatory pan – no Oscars I fear – and she’ll be yet another teenage star who couldn’t make it as an adult – probably because you need to grow up in order to do that. But Sparkle Bottom’s career will continue to blossom. My friend at UK Elle said KS’s behaviour at the Woman of the Year awards was considered ‘crude and socially inept’. This attitude probably appeals to uncouth 12 year olds but it may be the reason Anna Wintour – no picnic herself to deal with – ruled her out of consideration for the cover. Teen Vogue is more KS’s style. Does this mean the purported Burberry ads are now out the window?

    To susiedolly:

When you get your head clear let me know, I’ll take you out and treat you to a clue. I’ll add a shot of Coppola, Jake Scott, Kate Hudson, Sean Penn, Jodie Foster, Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund et al including “Sparklepants” – a slew of impressive others who would jump at a chance with her personally and professionally, but she’s choosy.

Because I care about ridding the world of stupidity and prejudice, I’ll give you the lowdown on how The Runaways was hobbled in marketing and distribution – and why (R rated, Pohlad connections to Summit during the Twi run). It’s an under-researched and under-reported story that has prevalence to you as a susiedolly in the post suffrage bra burning world. On top of that The Runaways’ profits and awards are still pending, so put that in your stake and drive it. The UK among others are hungry to get it, but won’t until this Summer. The same thing is happening to Welcome to The Rileys (Apparition break and bad hobbling mojo). SO yeah, she prefers indie to large franchise – big whoop, what’s it to ya? She actually turned down a larger franchise offer and kept details hush because she’s a professional. Walter Salles even refers to it, and that’s not in his character to comment. Everybody, and I mean everybody who works with her has nothing but high praise. She’s 20 for chrissakes. You may want to protect yourself because you’ll be hearing a lot more about Stewart in coming years.

It’s okay to have your opinion and like or dislike anyone you choose to. It’s not okay to just make up and sing about things you know nothing about because it satisfies some Pattispazm you have. Ah, whatever – in fact go ahead – pile your made up fantasy loathing on. With some people you give them enough keyboard and they make their own case for embarrassing stupidity. And, it’s funny for me to watch. Where’s the popcorn?

  • EmmaJones

Kristen Stewart is one of the kind. there hardly anybody to compare her to. She is living (or trying) to live her life and be true to herself.
The Runaways is an awesome film. Niche movie, would never made to the cinema if not for her. The director and the director of photography deserve an Oscar. The film was misrepresented as Joan Jett biography . R rated. You do not expect a Twilight fan to see their Bella as a butch. It is everything. Great reviews. She is famous for the role in professional circles. The film is a family drama, not a music film per say. In the society that watches Dear John, Mall Cap, Valentine’s Day(and yes, that f…g, tasteless crap Remember Me) it is difficult to find audience with some brains. The Road was played in limited theatres only. The Oscar winning H.? Symbolic earnings. There are movies for masses (like Mc D’s ) and movies for the elite. Commercialism and art do not mix. Poor Symphony Space, every time I visit it really feels like I am not the only supporter. Even Robin Hood did not score well in America with declining levels of gray matter in general population.. Robo caps, Horrors, Chais saw # 23 sell here. Americans even do not now that there are movies made outside of HW. Europeans movies are for paying elite.

Hope Stewart will never play in those popcorn films. She is not pressed for money. Never was. Coming from well to do family never was intended to be a breadwinner. States her opinions very clearly for her age.. Reminds me about Elizabeth Bennett’s line from “ Pride and…”
Well, Stewart does not suffer from a “good girl syndrome” that is for sure. Therefore I see her future as a happy one .She will live not to please crowds but herself. With her frugal spending habits her children and grandchildren will live in plenty. It doesn’t matter if others make three movies per year. It is that personal satisfaction that matters. Look at that poor Michael Douglas. Sure parading proudly in Cannes. But last week he has sent his son to jail for 5 years and admitting to be a sporadic father.
Well, I hope that Stewart will not be wrapped up in her roles and always have time to just sit and reflect on life as it is.
    “Don’t go changing…”

Pardon my rusty English. It has been a while.

  • susiedolly

    To Allyn:
Thanks for your illuminating response. Sadly I didn’t understand some of it: was it in English? I’m not familiar with bad hobbling mojos or Pattispazms but amid the weird words I did gather you think I’m an RP fan and that I invented some things about KS because of an irrational dislike. Not so. The Elle UK comments were accurate. She was very snotty at the event though perhaps she heard she was second choice for the award as the recipient didn’t show up. As for her arrival with 6 bodyguards at the BAFTAs, Queen Elizabeth doesn’t have 6 bodyguards! Her entrance caused a great deal of laughter as most people hadn’t a clue who she was but were impressed with her sense of self-importance. Even Sparkles got a shock when he came home at Christmas to make Bel Ami and realised nobody was interested in chasing him through the streets or trying to remove bits of his anatomy. We leave that to the US Twit fans. I’m not a fan but am pleased for him that he is successful in the US and is making intelligent choices in other films and working with top-flight actors. As for hearing KS’s name in coming years, she has C. Mulligan, E. Page, S Ronan, A Kendrick, K Knightley, A Seyfried, D Fanning and countless others on the same playing field/in the same age group, and some already have Oscar noms. If all the impressive names you quoted (Kate Hudson?? surely best known for her countless men friends?) think she’s great, can’t they find her a film that’s watchable and successful – other than TWIT stuff. I know what happened with The Runaways. So-so reviews for the film – good for KS and DF and MS – but who would throw in $10M to push a film with such limited appeal and since KS fans are mostly too young to see it. Budgets are constrained and it could have broken Apparition. KS is an average actress with a dismal personality and a childish manner. I assume it’s her foul mouth that appeals to little girls and those of limited intelligence. Even a casual glance at Ted C’s cabal of KS nutcases could scar you for life. By the way, I believe the word is relevance rather than prevalence in the second sentence of your second paragraph. Check your Roget’s.

  • alynn

    Susiedolly

Giggle. You’re fun stuff. Truly. When in doubt of source-able facts – get haughty and go for grammar – go for hearsay in the minority of public opinion (ie billions in franchise profits and dedicated fandom). It works for the conservative parties and for insecure girls in High School. It works for you in a bubble apparently too.

No, I don’t imagine you would understand the anti-corporate emo movement. It’s not for sale in the classic sense. It doesn’t dance and smile on command. It’s hard to capture. It’s at the heart of every movement that a segment of the population doesn’t “understand about these kids today.” (See: James Dean, The Beatles, Rock and Roll, Sex Pistols, belly button piercings). It’s difficult to market it to tastes that are uhm… what’s the word? Emma Watsonian? Occulus Reparo!

Thanks for the tip on Roget’s. I prefer sociology training outside of my local WIki, Borders and Amazon. My use of prevalence refers to current demographics for women’s issues (suffrage, bra burning and rated R Stewart), as in the number of individuals in a statistical population that at some point in their life (up to the time of assessment) have experienced a “case” (e.g., a disorder), compared to the total number of individuals (i.e. it is expressed as a ratio or percentage). Translated: It’s a feminism thing. Stat.

There’s enough audience to go around to other actresses. I wish them all great success. Kate Hudson, since you take peculiar issue, was excellent in Almost Famous and in Nine. Her maturation into directing and screenwriting are notable. She does tend toward comedic or romantic roles and she’s well received by audiences in those – true. She’s Hollywood dynasty in that regard. I remember her mother Goldie in Butterflies are Free. What gems. Her horizontal life? Wow. You are a fussy nugget. Also, you just called me a ho – tangentially speaking, my being much less discerning and more liberated than Ms. Hudson.

Re The Runaways: I gather that you haven’t seen it. I highly doubt you are familiar with the iconic story or Joan Jett beyond Crimson and Clover at your local Karaoke office party. You may not have heard Jett’s praise of Stewart’s portrayal of her. You seem unaware of fans who are itching for access to it in theaters and DVD (they are legion and of legal age). I’m 41. I saw it. My friends saw it. Granted: we had access to it at one tiny theater here, emotionally I’m 12 and I’m cursed with a child-like sense of wonder and a vintage Fender. These are not the only points you seem to have missed on the Stewart topic. Spew will do that to a person. Also, my congratulations on having one other spewing friend at Elle and another that likes to criticize people in their wee 20s who they don’t like while standing around on red carpets. They must be such a comfort to you if true. ‘Flocking’ I think my grandmother used to call it? Birds? Feathers? I forgot the saying… Anyway, you must throw really fab parties. Where do I get an invite – how fun are those? Are they like a Tupperware party of self-esteem where you shred on anything new and different than the classic stacking pastel variety?

You have my ultimate regard for your health, happiness and blood pressure going forward. Negativity is such a heavy burden please accept my sympathy. Just remember, if something hurts or causes you discomfort – you don’t have to look at it, give it your energy or be involved. Other people’s joy and accomplishments are included in that.

We get it – you no likey the Stewart. Err, or a lot of things… :) Oopsy, I think I just made up a word again. Sorry everybody. Hee.

  • alynn

    susiedolly (the condensed version)

I like you. I respect you. I disagree with you. I also think you’re coming across like Miss Havisham at a cupcake party.

  • susiedolly

Just a quick response – I don’t like cupcakes or karaoke. Almost Famous – great film – but describing Kate as a director and writer is a bit over the top for a 15 minute opus even if your beloved KS was in it. The grammar comment was being helpful – I know many Americans never finish high school. And as for the ‘emo movement’: isn’t that a euphemism for whining, miserable, dossers? As for my spewing friend at Elle, there were actually several people at Elle who were really affronted by KS’s behaviour, and the main comment on her BAFTA bodyguards was ‘Who does she think she is?’ . We’re not keen here on celebs who appear to have their heads up their own bottoms, especially if supposedly ‘down to earth’. Press comments (and I mean real newspapers not gossip rags) weren’t flattering to her either – sullen, sulky, miserable, having neither talent nor personality. (I loved that one and that was a male journalist.) I know you love fawning over people in the US but we’re not inclined to do that here. Russell Crowe stomped out of a live interview with the BBC a few days ago because the interviewer suggested to him that his Robin Hood accent sounded Irish. Robin Hood wasn’t Irish. We don’t care how big they are – we’ll insult them.

Just one other thing – you’re not seriously suggesting that KS is solely responsible for the ‘billions in franchise profits and dedicated fandom’ are you? I think Sparkle Bottom had a lot to do with that. My non-liking for KS is nothing to do with Twilight. It stems from a David Letterman show (we no longer have the show here) where she wanted to drive from either London or Berlin to Russia. Letterman suggested Berlin might be preferable (probably thinking less distance/no English Channel in between) but she didn’t seem to get what he was saying and said she hoped for London as her departure point. The audience were laughing and she didn’t seem to understand why. My first thought was – she’s on drugs, my second was: perhaps she’s really stupid. I knew nothing about Twilight at the time – the books were virtually unknown over here. I didn’t realise the actor I’d seen a couple of years before in The Haunted Airman and Bad Mother’s Handbook on TV over here was the lead, and I’d only ever seen her in Panic Room and Into the Wild. I’m afraid no interviews I’ve read/seen her in since then have altered my original thoughts about her. Your ‘other people’s joy’ comment is daft. I can’t imagine anyone less likely to be joyous than old Kristen. As far as I know she isn’t Mother Theresa and the Virgin Mary combined but she is apparently considered inviolate as far as negative comments are concerned. My comments were perfectly rational in that I think she’s a mediocre actress who has been elevated to Mother Theresa status because of some rubbish prose written by a fat Mormon in Arizona. I made no comments about her haircut, sexual orientation, clothing as they’re irrelevant. Presumably you love every single actor, actress, singer in the world. That’s very nice of you.

Thank you for being so lucid. You might have been Cleo and then I’d have had to look at a load of profanities and caps. Have a nice weekend.

  • alynn

for susiedolly and to my granddad’s spirit:

    Dear Dean,

I love you everyday. Your sacrifice on the shores of Normandy have not gone unnoticed. What your granddaughter lacks in overture to the allies in their opinion of her seemingly undiscerning cultural preferences and spirited naivete, you more than make up for in securing their right to express it and live free. You were the best granddad I could have ever hoped for. I’d do the same again if called.

    Sincerely,
    Alynn
