Kris Jenner on Returning 20.5-Carat Ring: “I Hate an Indian Giver”

Kris Jenner, who was on “Good Morning America” to promote her new memoir, “Kris Jenner and all Things Kardashian,” naturally talked about the book after first discussing Kim Kardashian and her decision to end her marriage to Kris Humphries.

Jenner said, “It was a decision she came to after a lot of heartache,” noting that for a long time Kim’s ”dream [was] to get married and have babies, and raise a family — that’s all she’s ever wanted.”

The famous family’s matriarch couldn’t pinpoint when her daughter realized her marriage was over, but did say, “Kim hasn’t been the Kim I know… She seemed worried, not her happy self.”

“I want Kim back….  I want her to be happy,” added Jenner, implying that Humphries was not the answer.

As for the infamous 20.5-carat diamond engagement ring that Humphries gave Kardashian, don’t count on the reality star returning the under $1 million bauble.

Jenner said, “I hate an Indian giver. It’s a gift. You keep a gift.”

From a legal standpoint, the ring 100 percent belongs to Kardashian.

    As a Native American i found Kris Jenners derogatory comment extremely offensive! the use of the term Indian giver suggests that we as Native people gave up all our land and ect. to the caucasions willingly and fairly and then asked for it back as we all know in history this was not the case!! as if that was not bad eough, Laura Specer then insured the term was used once again! How unprofessional! She should know better as a journalist! I demand a public apology to all people who had to endure this Racist remark the same way it was expressed, on GMA!

    I could see if the marriage lasted five years not wanting to give the ring back, but 72 days and she pushed to have the wedding so quickly? Give me a break! Your mother LOVES to bring how much you are worth and how YOU need to be protected. What about Kris? The man you said that you loved. He had no job right now and could really use the money he would get from selling that ring. I used to really like Kim, but this whole situation has me rethinking that. People get divorced, it happens, but who says that they want to keep it between the couple and then goes on HOW MANY talk shows?

    I am amazed that so many “non-talented parasites” continue to gain noteriety for bad behavior! We as “the public” should stop watching their TV shows, buying their products or magazines that continue to keep them in the spotlight. I would love to see the return of a time when you had to act, dance, sing, etc in order to become famous.

    It depends. I have a feeling Kim(or E!) is the one who paid for the ring in the first place so of course she would keep it. If Kris H. paid for it, then she should return it since it’s clear she is the one who ended the marriage.

    Umm how is that expression racist ? If English is not your first language the. Let me explain… The expression comes from American history where the government would promise land to the rightful Indian tribes that lived there…. And then take it back….

    It’s not racist… It’s an expression to refer to someone who takes back what they give.

    If Kim didn’t pay for the ring, returning it would be the respectful thing for her to do since she’s the one who is ending the marriage. Even if it was a gift, it’s not just some random piece of jewelry that was given to her, it’s a ring that has a lot of sentiment behind it and was intended for marriage, a marriage that is no longer happening. Of course the mom wouldn’t encourage her giving the ring back, it’s worth a lot of money.

The term “Indian gift” was first noted in 1765 by Thomas Hutchinson, and “Indian giver” was first cited in John Russell Bartlett’s Dictionary of Americanisms (1860) as “Indian giver. When an Indian gives any thing, he expects to receive an equivalent, or to have his gift returned.” Thus it was really an exchange of gifts and not a matter of selfishness.

    Nevertheless, the phrase can be considered offensive, particularly to American Indians.

    Do some research, folks! What Kris said IS offensive… she should know better than to use phrases like that.

    Rosanna Scott of New York’s Fox Five did the best interview with Kris Jenner. She held Kris’ feet to the fire and it was obvious Kris didn’t like it. Ha! Kim K and her mom’s little good girl plan is exploding. Kim K should be called on this fiasco if not she will go on some talk show and make light of it.

    I guess. But think of the bigger and better picture here. Thousands of starving, homeless adults and children could be fed a warm meal for awhile. Shower, clean up, have clean clothes. Maybe she will or won’t get a tax write off but at least people will be taken care of. For a bit at least.

    @Maree – exactly! I had said on other (previous) posts that she should give it back. He gave her that ring based on a promise of marriage. I’m sure he was thinking of forever. Not 72 days! SHE ended the marriage. SHE should do the right thing and give the ring back. If she doesn’t then she may lose a lot of her fans.

    She filed for divorce without talking to him about it. I think expecting that she would do what is right or respectful is a leap. If she paid for the ring, they should say that and the issue would be moot. But if he paid for it she needs to return it she entered into the marriage with bad faith. 72-days isn’t even trying at the marriage. She says she got caught up on the hoopla? BS is what I say. Kris gave her the ring with the expectation that she was in for the long haul. 72-days of marriage is a publicity stunt. I feel sorry for the man. And from this point forward will boycot all things Kardashian. I implore others to do the same. If you don’t support what they sell, companies will stop using them as spokes persons. It is up to the public to call a halt to their gravy train. I hope any single guys out there will keep in mind, this is how she plays. I would hope they would steer clear, but its awfully pretty bait, some chump is going to bite. Her mom is her manager and books her engagements, they knew when the wedding was and the never cleared any time for a proper honeymoon? Kim, Kris, Kortney, Scott and Mason in a hotel room, that was a big red flag if I every saw one. What? They couldn’t afford a separate room for the newlyweds? Kris should counter sue her for annaulment and site fraud as the reason.

    I doubt Chris has asked for the ring back since he didn’t know he was getting a divorce. The correct thing would be to give the ring back since the wedding was a farce. Kim K has even stated that she got caught up the wedding hoopla and didn’t want to disappoint anyone. She should have given the ring back and stopped the wedding. She is a joke and has no class.
