VIDEO: Kirk Cameron Slammed For Asking “Moms” & “Wives” To Keep A Joyful Home This Christmas
Kirk Cameron is under fire for a new Facebook video in which he calls on moms and wives to focus on the “joy” of keeping a happy home this Christmas season. The “Growing Pains” star, who’s become a prominent evangelical Christian, is seen delivering an upbeat message about the holiday and the importance of a welcoming, festive household.
But the fact that Cameron specifically refers to moms and wives fulfilling these home-based duties, rather than dads and husbands, is rubbing a lot of observers the wrong way. Us Weekly uses the headline, “Kirk Cameron: Wives, Mothers Should Focus on Home, Joy of Family.” Gawker is harsher, declaring, “Village Idiot Kirk Cameron Wants Women to Know Their Place in the Home.”
We’re curious to hear how you feel about Cameron’s video. Here’s the text of what he says: “If you are a mom, if you are a wife, if you’re the keeper of your home, I want you to know that your joy is so important this Christmas. Because Christmas is about joy, and if the joy of the Lord is your strength, remember, the joy of the mom is her children’s strength.”
Cameron continues, “So don’t let anything steal your joy. If you let your joy get stolen, it will sap your strength. Let your children, your family, see your joy in the way that you decorate your home this Christmas, in the food that you cook, the songs you sing, the stories you tell, and the traditions that you keep. Invite your whole neighborhood into your Christmas, and invite the world into our story of our king and his kingdom.”
He then plugs his movie Saving Christmas. Check out the video below, and tell us what you think about what Cameron has to say.
