Kim Kardashian Defends Reality TV, Wants a Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

Kim Kardashian offers an interesting response to her critics in a new interview with V Magazine.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star, who has been blasted by actors such as Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Daniel Craig and Jonah Hill because of the culture her family’s show promotes, says that like it or not, reality television is “still entertainment.”

Kardashian reveals, “It’s always funny to me when people say that I’m famous for being famous. I think it’s fascinating, because it’s still entertainment, you know? It’s fun to see the progression of that idea.”

She explains, “I’m not naïve to the fact that I’m not a singer or an actress or anything like that. I’ve never claimed to be anything that I’m not. I think [reality] is still a new form of entertainment that was kind of an unexpected thing.”

“It reminds me of rap music,” offers Kardashian.

Huh?

The reality star muses, “When rap music first came out, people were like, We don’t understand this, what is this, it’s just a fad. But rap music is definitely here to stay, and I think reality shows have proven they are as well.”

“But when something is newer, people don’t really understand it,” adds Kardashian.

She goes on to argue that reality television has in a way come to take the place of soap operas, saying that the draw is that her family is “relatable” and that they are constantly connecting with fans through social media.

Asked if she thinks she could ever gain the respect of a true television star, Kardashian offers, ”I think there was a quote where somebody said that reality stars will never get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. So, of course I’m so competitive that I think that it would be a huge achievement and a goal that anyone would want. I would love to break that mold.”

I dont know anyone in my world that can relate to them…so her saying they are “relatable” is a joke. Oh but now she’s with Kayne so to some she is bearable but she is still a joke to the world and a hoe to anyone in the industry.

    Well she was right about one thing, her not being an actor at least not a talented one. I enjoy Drop Dead Diva but the episodes w/ Kim were difficult to watch. Here’s hoping she doesn’t make any more guest appearances on that or any of my other shows. If she shows up on NCIS I will be furious.

    No she doesn’t deserve a star because she ISN’T a star. She may be famous or more accurately infamous but that is not the same thing. Though I don’t expect any one in that family to know the difference.

    who cares a star on the hollywood walk of fame is supposed to be to honor actual talent. the Kardashians have none of that they’re infamous because their father helped OJ Simpson beat a murder wrap. if they ever recieved a star before someone like Vanessa Redgrave who has been in the business for nearly 60 years I’d lose what little respect I have left for those things. it’s just another useless award only fun for five minutes. the first actress to receive one was Joanne Woodward in 1960 granted things were totally different in those days

    Say what you want, their family is making bank and people are interested in them. Reality is a form of a guilty pleasure that everyone seems to be jumping on and her family is on top of it all. No one says anything about Big Brother, the Glass House, Survivor, etc. I mean those are reality game shows. I don’t watch her show but if she wants a star let her have it. She’s bringing in more revenue than actors an actresses a year.

    Boy Kim needs to get glasses. She does not see that Kanye is using her. She is wearing his designs in the shoot. How else could a guy go from only being known in the music business and a so so designer(his show in Paris got panned 2 yrs in a row) get his designs in a magazine. He got to show his designs on a woman who is globally known (yes haters she is). He has used every opportunity to get his name out there by using Kim. Sorry haters but whether you like it or not Kim is one of the most talked about and globally covered woman. Since he’s changed her wardrobe she’s gotten nothing but horrible reviews.     Reality tv exists because it has a much lower budget to produce and therefore higher profit margins. If ratings for the Kardashian shows were the same as a scripted show they’d be on the bubble fighting to survive, not getting numerous spin offs. Very few viewers relate to the Kardashians. The point to reality tv is akin to watching a car accident. The reality tv stars behave outrageously to get ratings. It’s not about being liked or relatable. Kim is correct that reality tv is a form of entertainment and frankly a bad one at that as it crowds out better forms of entertainment because of the higher production costs for scripted shows. It has reduced the majority of television programming to the lowest common denominator which is one of the reasons why I canceled cable. There are a few good reality tv programs, but the ones that are all share the format of being either a competition show or an informative show like “Mythbusters”. Kim is right that shows like hers are a new kind of soap opera, but they are pretty poor in quality compared to soaps.
