The New York Post fumbled when it ran an item claiming New Orleans Saints star Reggie Bush had made a deal with girlfriend Kim Kardashian to propose to her if his team wins the Super Bowl.

“He’s now just two wins away from holy matrimony,” the Post declares after Bush’s two touchdowns led the Saints to an easy victory over the Arizona Cardinals last weekend.

Wouldn’t it be nice if outlets CHECKED before repeating a rumor?

Here’s what actually happened. During a radio interview, Kardashian was asked what she dreamed for in 2010, and she responded by saying she hoped for a Super Bowl ring for Bush. Jokingly, the interviewer said Kardashian should get an engagement ring if that happens, to which Kardashian playfully agreed, “OK, deal!”

As Kardashian herself says on her blog, the joke “was taken way out of context by a lot of media outlets.” “In NO way is that a bet I made with Reggie!” she continues, adding, “If you listen to the interview you can hear exactly what I said… It bugs me how people twist stories.”

It bugs Gossip Cop, too, but unfortunately it’s not at all surprising when outlets miss facts as badly as tacklers miss Bush.
