Kim Kardashian: Guns ‘Scare Me So Much,’ We Don’t Have ‘Strict Enough’ Laws
Kim Kardashian sounded off about gun control and other political issues during her talk at the San Francisco Commonwealth Club on Tuesday.
The reality star was interviewed by Judge LaDoris Cordell, and was asked about last month’s Charleston church shooting. “I’m not the type to have [guns] in my house. They scare me so much,” admitted Kardashian. “If I could do something to change the world… I’m not really a gun person, and we do not have strict enough gun control laws.”
On the topic of Hillary Clinton potentially becoming America’s first female president, Kardashian exclaimed, “I hope so!” She also expressed support for President Obama, and the Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriages. “Proud of Obama and proud to be an American,” she told Cordell and the audience members.
Kardashian was also asked about feminism. “I guess people would call me a feminist, but I don’t like to put labels on things and shout and say ‘free the nipple’ and stuff,” she responded. “I do what makes me feel comfortable. I never think what I say is the right thing, but I believe you should do what makes you feel comfortable.”
And, well, Kardashian feels comfortable posing naked. Of her infamous full-frontal Paper cover, she says the shoot was “empowering” and that she would “absolutely do it again.” And yet Kardashian believes the media “objectifies” women. She explained, “I think women sometimes do it to themselves, but I also think that if you have the power, you can take that power and put out what you want people to look at and what you feel is beautiful.”
Cordell further wondered, “It’s clear that you are a successful businesswoman, so do you feel that people still discount you because of your sexiness?” Kardashian answered affirmatively. “I think people still look at me as the persona that’s portrayed on the show. The show doesn’t video my boring work meetings throughout the day,” she said, adding, “It’s hard when people want to put you in a certain box or a certain way. I don’t pay much attention to it.” TELL US: What do you think of Kardashian’s take on current events?
