Kim Jong Il of North Korea Dead at 69

Kim Jong Il has died, according to North Korean state television and the Associated Press.
He was 69.
His death was announced in a “special broadcast” from the country’s capital city of Pyongyang.
According to unconfirmed reports, the ruler died over the weekend while on a train trip to give “field guidance.”
He was believed to have suffered a stroke in 2008 and been afflicted with diabetes and heart disease.
His son, Kim Jong Un, was named successor in September 2010.
Kim Jong Il took power in 1994 upon the death of his father, North Korean founder Kim Il Sung.
