Busting bad dish!

Kim Delaney of “Army Wives” Pulled Off Stage After Stumbling Through Speech

VIDEO

(YouTube)

Kim Delaney was pulled off stage after delivering a slurred, bizarre speech at an event for former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The “Army Wives” actress struggled through her prepared remarks, which were at times unintelligible, while honoring Gates with the Liberty Medal Award at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

It’s not clear what was wrong with Delaney, who appeared disheveled and disoriented.

Delaney has battled substance abuse in the past, including a 2002 arrest for drunk driving.

it looks like to me that she was having trouble reading the tele prompter. I was expecting an Anna Nicole moment by the way you and TMZ had described it.

  • Kgeh1118

Poor thing! She is an alcoholic!

  • guest

painful to watch, clearly had too much to drink. At least they helped her off the stage before she embarrassed herself anymore.

  • Lester Spratt

Trouble reading the teleprompter my rear end. She was all but giggling about it. A sober person unable to read the teleprompter would have admitted the problem and apologized to the audience.

  • Sheleases

Wow. What a disappointment. I’ve always been such a fan and am shocked because she exudes so much class on screen. She was struggling to read the teleprompter. I even saw her squint a few times. She clearly was tipsy and if she has a drinking/drug problem, I sincerely hope she gets the help she needs. Only a drunk female would go on camera with her hair looking like that! She still a great actress and still looks great for her age though. No one can deny that.

  • D. Martin

She was definitely having trouble. She looks pretty intoxicated to me.

  • D. Martin

Poor thing?! I’m sorry but I don’t agree with this. As a child of an alcoholic its the people around them you should feel sorry for. The alcoholic doesn’t always suffer — its the people who love them that do.

  • Anonymous

very sad and unfortunate for her because so many people saw this and when she is back to herself, she’ll have to deal with it. I hope people will be kind.

  • Eyequestmom

I agree, I have always loved Kim Delaney since her All My Children day, but this was sad….I don’t think anyone should be judging her though, you never know the real story

  • Guest

where was she giggly? she clearly was squinting through it.

  • Guest

her hair was a bit disheveled, but whether alcohol or drugs influenced her performance, I doubt. this is clearly a combination of poor eyesight, no preparation or rehearsal, and being uncomfortable with the speech. at the beginning, she says to someone, “that’s my job…” which I took as her saying, “but that’s not my life, but the character I play on tv.” we saw her first read-through of the speech, and we witnessed that she didn’t prep at all.

I think it was a combination of a few drinks and the teleprompter, it’s clear she was having issues reading it. I don’t know the woman personally, so I’m not going to sit here and say, because I’ve seen her character on T.V I’m disappointed in her. That’s just stupid. Learn to differentiate the person from what you see on T.V.

After this performance she might not be on army wives anymore, wait is that show still on? I don’t know i don’t follow crappy shows.

Watch it again then. There were several times where it looked like she was going to start laughing. She actually did have a small grin on her face at least 3 separate times. Very obvious.

  • Miss Suzanne

    Hmmm, maybe.
But what about when she started talking about her father? And her floppy, weird hand movement when she said that it was make believe for her? Or for that matter, what about the make believe comment?!
I think I’m sticking to my original impression that she was pretty messed up.

the alcoholic always suffers, do you think its easy to have alcoholism? it isn’t . they dont want to lose the people around them and destroy their lives but they have a disease. I hope she finds AA, NA or CA if she is an addict and that her family decides to go to Al-Anon.

  • D. Martin

One thing you are taught in the programs is to take responsibility. You choose to take that first drink. You choose the substance over your loved ones — until it ends up costing you everything — and then you choose to get help. I agree — alcoholism is not easy. But the ONE thing we do have is a choice. I hope she chooses to get help.

Unless you are an alcoholic (ARE, not surrounded by) you have no idea what it is like to BE an alcoholic because of the insanity of the obsession of alcohol. I’m sorry for whatever you’ve been through. But your view of alcoholism is so black and white and that is not how it is. Have you ever craved alcohol? So badly that your mouth waters and your body shakes and you feel miserable and depressed inside because you know you shouldn’t drink, but at the same time it’s what you desire so badly? Alcoholics and addicts lack a certain amount of impulse control that everyone else seems to have. That has been medically proven.

Absolutely a choice to get help. But that is the scariest decision I have ever made. You see alcohol as a destroying factor. I saw it as the one and only way to make it through a day. There’s two sides to every story, and to think yours is the only one, is foolish.

  • D. Martin

Clarissa – I never said mine was the only side. It’s not. But MY side – and others – ARE the other side of the story. My view on alcoholism IS black and white when it comes to drunk driving or if the alcohol causes violence. My mother stated that my father was a good man — except for when he drank. When he drank he constantly beat my mother and my siblings. I have two sisters who are addicts. One niece shares the same trait as her grandfather and, when drinking, becomes violent — to the point of stabbing her brother. She has lost custody of all her children and sits in a jail cell now.

I’m glad you made the decision to get help. For you and your family. Yes, there are two sides to every story. You gave me yours and now you have mine.

I’m with you Clarissa, I am in recovery too. Powerlessness and unmanageability are not a “choice” .. of course no one chooses to be an Alcoholic hence being powerless. Step 1 shows us this. Greatful you found the rooms. Take care.

  • kbeth2001

WOW!… I must say now that I think back,I did make a choice. The CHOICE was to get sober and beg for help. Help, from strangers, people I had never met. The people around me could not accept that i had a problem and that was why I was living like an animal. I guess you are right, I always wanted to grow up and make a fool out of myself, divorce, lose kids, homes, friends, jobs,MY HEALTH. AHH, yes i wanted to have an arrest record and walk around feelling all the shame for things i could not remember anb of course it was always my goal to hurt the ones I loved. I pray for tolerance and understanding.

I always like Simon and Alex! I always felt like they were more intelligent than a lot of the NY people. Except for Bethanny she seemed to be smart. But by that I mean “classy” too. I hope that Alex and Simon get their own show. Like Kate Plus 8 did. I would like to just follow them in a show format to see how they are doing with the new biz and the kids and all of that. I’m tired of girls fighting and drama like that. I just want to follow Alex and Simon. I’m sure with the biz and the kids and all of that there will be “real” drama in that and not like this HighSchool stuff. We can see them creating this biz and juggleing the kids and school and all the stuff the kids are doing. Shoot.. if people turned on Kate plus 8 don’t you think we would watch Alex and Simon? I mean, THATS REALLY INTERESTING to see how people get started in biz and the struggles. But they are two very smart people and I just enjoy them so much. I love how Alex and Simon handle themselves. Also, it seemed like Alex REALLY wasn’t fazed by the stupid drama she just got louder with them. Please Bravo. We had Bethanny ever after and that was good. How about “Alex and Simon-Starting Again” or something. Im a housewife that just wants to see people with real lives and real things they are working on etc. not all that trashy stuff.

  • dconeray

oh and Kim Delaney? looks like a mixture of both going on there. I wish I could drink like that and still be skinny and hot!

  • jae

Clearly, you don’t know the first thing about alcoholism. My aunt died from alcoholism. It is not always about choice when you have an addiction and it is not that simple to choose not to do what you are addicted to. Addiction to any substance is more complicated than just taking the drink or the drug or whatever. You incorporate it into every aspect of your life which is what makes it difficult for people with substance abuse problems to overcome, it is not just a physical affliction it is a psychological affliction as well. My aunt died after years of alcoholism. Alcohol never completely leaves your system. My aunt had to be commited because she believed that there were bugs crawling all over her that she would pick her skin or sratch herself till she was bleeding, she tried to stab my uncle because she thought he was trying to harm her. Alcohol eats away at your brain stem, it leaves you with many other problems than you could possibly imagine.

Whatever the truth may be you do not under ANY circumstances show up BOMBED on stage at a serious event and disgrace the USA and lastly yourself, I say lastly because she does not care what others think of how she appears on national television. That happens when your a drunk, you think you look normal, I know I am sober for years now from a family of drunks and druggies, “call me an expert” So much of hollywood is bombed, can’t they just stay clean for the Social events? showing off all there millions, makes me sick!

  • Webpaige

Was there nobody backstage who could have prevented that? Somebody should have taken control and not let her go out there and embarrass herself.

  • debbie

I just got finished saying the same thing, they knew enough to pull her off stage only after the fact everyone saw her drunk, she had to be that way before they sent her out, people do hair & makeup, someone had to notice, maybe they all thought it was quite funny, haha I am laughing, having the desease of alcoholism is oh soooo funny for the victim & all the loved ones affected, keep laughing it will happen to you someday, My son died trying something he thought was funny, just one time hahaha

  • glenda

Alcoholic’s have a disease? I thought a disease was something you got, not something you gave yourself .Drinking is self induced, like obesity, you do this to yourself. It’s called self control. She needs some of that. She needs help. Didn’t anyone notice how she was before she went on stage? I don’t pity her or feel sorry for her or anyone who is an alcoholic, but I do feel badly for the family. I’ve know some and they are very destructive, and problably just don’t care. Sad but true

  • Glenda

skinny and hot? you probably think all females that are too skinny ( to me she is) are hot, just because they are skinny. Probably not very healthy either, well, then again, that’s obvious here.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=722025046 Sarah Krill

Try going to an Al-anon meeting, you’ll learn a lot.

  • Charlie

this entire speech was in bad taste. there is no way anyone who helped coordinated this event planned that speech. it’s obvious that those were her own words. I’ve never liked her show, and after seeing this, I don’t care a bit for her either. that event was to celebrate the military career of someone who held the second highest rank in our nations military, someone who has had to help make the hardest decisions our nation has faced in my lifetime, and she spent her time talking about her fake ‘experiences’. to stand there and act like you know what our soldiers and their families go through because you memorize a script is absolutely classless. she has no clue what real army wives go through. imagine that your husband was a deployed navy seal a couple months ago. imagine you haven’t heard from him in weeks, and then all the sudden you see all that media coverage about the helicopter that was shot down, killing seals. close your eyes and imagine that panic and horror and sheer heartache. now open them and realize that unless you’ve been there, what you just imagined isn’t half what real military spouses and children risk facing everyday. thank god she was grown off the stage. she proved herself an embarrassment and offended every member of our military with her words.

  • jj

She wasn’t drunk. She couldn’t read the teleprompter. She was ill-prepared for this speech and clearly didn’t feel comfortable giving it. Stop jumping to conclusions, people. Jump off the band wagon and be objective. Lord! She should have been better prepared..or let someone else do the speech.

This is a pledge to try my best to understand and accept the differences of others and to exercise less judgement to practice kindness and to consider the impact of my words and actions.
