Was Khloe Kardashian mistaken for a drag queen? That’s the outrageous claim in one of Wednesday’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can reveal why this supposed scoop is actually bad dish.

In Touch writes in its new issue, “This isn’t the kind of attention Khloe Kardashian is used to getting! During her recent trip to Cuba, Khloe and her best friend, Malika Haaq, were mistaken for drag queens.” A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “The Kardashians aren’t famous there. Khloe and Malika were waving like they were royalty and had cameras following them, so people were curious.”

And, according to the magazine, “eventually some people approached the camera crew.” The supposed snitch claims, “They asked if Khloe and Malika were drag queens. It was a legitimate question because a movie about a gay man performing as a drag queen was being filmed on the island at the same time. The crew laughed about it, but Malika overheard and got very upset — because people didn’t know who Khloe was!”

Gossip Cop can clear up a few things and show why this article raised our suspicions. First off, the “movie about a gay man performing as a drag queen” in Cuba is called Viva, and it came out in 2015. In other words, it’s impossible for it to have been filmed while Kardashian was in the country earlier this year.

Second, what In Touch calls a “recent trip” actually took place in early May, three months ago. If this encounter actually happened, one has to wonder why the tabloid is only reporting it now. But Gossip Cop can explain that, too. The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” episodes showing the Cuba trip just aired on E! over the last two weeks, and some of the footage featured Kardashian and Haaq sightseeing and waving to people.

So it seems the magazine saw fit to manufacture a story relating to that to be published in the wake of the shows’ broadcast. But neither installment included any such “drag queens” incident as described here, despite it supposedly involving the camera crew. And while the footage could’ve ended up on the cutting room floor, Gossip Cop is told the story is actually just made up.
