Trucker Charged In Tracy Morgan Crash Had Been Awake More Than 24 Hours
Kevin Roper, the truck driver, charged in the multi-vehicle car crash that left Tracy Morgan in critical condition and fellow comedian James McNair dead, had been awake for more than 24 hours leading up to the accident, say authorities.
A criminal complaint claims Roper was behind the wheel “without having slept for a period in excess of 24 hours.” The accident occurred early Saturday when Roper’s Walmart tractor-trailer collided with the limousine bus carrying Morgan, McNair and others on the New Jersey Turnpike as the group returned home from a show.
Roper, who was released after posting a $50,000 bail, has been officially charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. Although the comedian remains in critical condition Morgan’s rep told Gossip Cop on Sunday that he is “more responsive,” but will remain in the hospital for “several weeks.”
