Kevin Durant Signs With Warriors: Celebrities React To NBA Player Leaving Oklahoma City Thunder
Kevin Durant shook up the NBA on Monday when he announced he’s signing with the Golden State Warriors. Now celebrity sports fans are reacting to the news.
Durant, a small forward, was widely considered the biggest and best free agent this off-season. Oklahoma City Thunder fans hoped he stick with the team he’s been with since 2006. Instead, he dealt OKC a huge blow by choosing to go with the Warriors, making Steph Curry’s team even more powerful that it already was.
In response to the news, Jordin Sparks tweeted some “shocked face” emojis, writing, “I was not expecting that!” Arsenio Hall teased, “Guess what Jerry West and Golden State are celebrating on the 4th of July, @georgelopez?! The Three Splashketeers!” And Seth Meyers deadpanned, “Congratulations to @KDTrey5 for making a decision about his own future!”
Oklahoma native Kristin Chenoweth was particularly upset by Durant’s choice. “I am pretty devestated. I’m very loyal in all I do. So I guess I struggle with his decision,” she tweeted. She went on to write, “I can certainly understand his decision. Not easy for us Oklahomans.”
“It’s a wrap #Warriors,” Zendaya declared. Josh Gad joked, “That vomiting sound you hear is coming from the other 29 teams in the NBA not named #GoldenState. #KevinDurant #HandThemTheTitle.” KeKe Palmer observed, “I’m not crazy into sports but I like how KD and Curry carry themselves. Together they’d prob work well.”
And Ansel Elgort expressed, “Really KD?… Now I’m really rooting against the Warriors.” This much is clear: The 2016-2017 NBA season will be quite interesting.
