Kevin Costner Refused To Attend 2017 Oscars?
Kevin Costner did NOT refuse to go to the Oscars after he failed to score a nomination for his role in Hidden Figures, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this claim. We’re told it’s “not true.”
“Kevin’s Oscar Outrage,” blares a headline from this week’s OK!, which goes on to claim the actor was “so upset” over not receiving a nomination for Hidden Figures that he turned down his invite for the Academy Awards ceremony. A so-called “source” tells the tabloid, “Kevin promoted the film like crazy, but when he failed to get any award nods, he disappeared.” In an attempt to persuade the actor to attend the Oscars, “They gave him and his family an entire week of pampering at the spa in the Four Seasons Hotel,” further purports the magazine’s dubious insider.
But Gossip Cop investigated, and a rep for Costner exclusively assures us the report is “not true.” The actor did not refuse to go to this year’s Oscars, nor was he persuaded by the Academy to attend the ceremony by giving him and his family a week of pampering at the Four Seasons Spa. What’s more, we’re further told the actor was “thrilled to be a part of the film,” and was delighted that both the movie and Octavia Spencer were nominated for awards. Clearly, the outlet has seemingly concocted yet another fake news story.
Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has busted an inaccurate tale about the actor. In 2015, we called out OK!’s sister publication, Star, for falsely alleging Costner was caught flirting with several younger women behind his wife’s back at a restaurant in Los Angeles. That report wasn’t true, and the same goes for this latest one.
