Elmo Puppeteer Kevin Clash Resigns Amid Growing Underage Sex Scandal

Kevin Clash has resigned from “Sesame Street” amid allegations that he was involved in sexual activities with two underage men.

The longtime Elmo puppeteer’s sex scandal had become a “distraction,” said Sesame Workshop.

On the heels of allegations that Clash had a sexual relationship with Sheldon Stephens when he was just a teenager, comes news on Tuesday that a second man claims he too had an inappropriate relationship with the puppeteer while underage.

The new accuser, Cecil Singleton, now in his 30s, filed a lawsuit stating he met Clash in a gay chatline in 1993 when he was just 15.

According to the $5 million suit filed in New York, Clash “groomed [Singleton] to gain his trust by, among other things, taking him to nice dinners and giving him money.”

The court papers further state Clash was “preying on teenage boys to satisfy his depraved sexual interests.”

In a press conference on Tuesday, Singleton noted that when he was with Clash, there was ”groping, masturbation, intense kissing, dry-humping,” and intercourse only when he was no longer a minor.

Sesame Workshop said in a statement about Clash’s resignation: “Sesame Workshop’s mission is to harness the educational power of media to help all children the world over reach their highest potential. Kevin Clash has helped us achieve that mission for 28 years, and none of us, especially Kevin, want anything to divert our attention from our focus on serving as a leading educational organization.”

“Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street,” concludes the statement.

    So then I WAS right? When I wrote in my first comment about this man that certain people would claim that homosexuality and Pedophilia is very similar and that those both ” sexual preferences” have very close link within each other. And would you blame them?! Obviously, people will argue here that he is innocent and 15 or 16 year old is not kid, but if he innocent why did he settled that first claim( why would he?) and yes, those were children! Now, children around the world will find out, that some popular program the they used to watch, or are still watching, is linked to the words like: a rape, a pedophilia, a gay! Isn’t that nice? Now, could anyone here try to imagine to sleep with 15 year old?! Sic….

    So is Sheldon Stephens the guy who accused Clash and then admitted that he made it up, or is this another new accuser making 3 the total number of accusers? If it’s only 2, shouldn’t GC point out in the story that Sheldon Stephens recanted his story? Otherwise, the story is rather inflammatory and unfair.

    This makes me sick to my stomach. I just can’t help but think the ONLY reason this guy is coming forward is all about money. Mr Clash has become so popular and the rumor is the 1st guy was paid off now more guys are coming out of the wood work looking for their money. This is just sick and sad on all levels.

    what’d you expect? i mean it’s not like it’s about twilight. seriously tho. wow this is so not what you want to think of when you look at Sesame Street. Elmo is the most popular one! i had a friggin Tickle Me Elmo doll when i was a kid. that’s taken on a whole new meaning now. i’m guessing it’s true about him. Sad. Not because he’s gay but with underage kids? Geez! by the way gay and pedophilia are not the same. not always. Straight guys do it to little girls. there’s no boundaries people! are people really stupid enough to believe crap like that? what next? a woman who likes watching Ellen suddenly believes she’s a lesbian? A man who likes watching Ryan Murphy’s TV shows think he’s gay? Seriously people!
