Kesha “True Colors” Music Video: Listen To New Song With Zedd
“True Colors” has been months, if not years, in the making. Until now, Kesha had not recorded new music since her legal battle with producer Dr. Luke began in late 2014. She has accused him of sexual assault, and he in turn has alleged the singer is extorting him in an attempt to get out of her contract.
Earlier this year, Kesha’s request for a preliminary injunction to break their contract was shot down by a New York judge. The judge pointed out that she has been free to work with other producers in the meantime, as Sony has offered. Now she has seized that opportunity, teaming up with Zedd, who first offered to work with her in February.
As Gossip Cop reported, the deejay tweeted to Kesha at the time, “Very very sorry to hear about the whole situation. I’ll be happy to produce a song for you if you want my help.” The two ended up collaborating at Coachella earlier this month, performing his song “True Colors.”
Then this week, Kesha and Zedd revealed they had formally recorded the track, which is the title song to the album he released last year. Amid confusion as to whether Kesha was going against Dr. Luke and illegally making new music without him, Zedd tweeted on Wednesday, “Just to clarify: We didn’t use any loop holes. Kemosabe / RCA gave us permission to release this song!”
Kesha is signed to both Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe and RCA through Sony. An appreciative Dr. Luke responded, “Thanks for the clarification @Zedd…” But while that may give the appearance that all is going smoothly, Kesha has made some telling comments of her own on social media.
“its a miracle when someone gives you a chance at finding your voice again!! @zedd #truecolors,” she tweeted Wednesday. Then Thursday, in revealing the music video teaser on Facebook, the pop star wrote, “this is more than a song. it’s a declaration of my truth #truecolors.” Watch below, and listen to the full song.
