Kelly Ripa NOT “Betrayed” By “Live” Co-Hosts, Despite Report
Kelly Ripa has NOT been “betrayed,” despite a new tabloid cover story about “Live With Kelly.” Gossip Cop can debunk the erroneous report.
The new issue of Life & Style tries to convince readers it has an exclusive from Ripa herself. A headline declares, “Kelly’s Story: I’ve Been Betrayed.” Of course, she never said any such thing to the tabloid or spoke to the magazine at all.
Nevertheless, it’s asserted that since Michael Strahan left the show last year, “several of the men in her life have let her down and betrayed her.” Jerry O’Connell, a frequent guest co-host, is said to be among them, with the outlet claiming he’s “in talks” with ABC to “host his own talk show alongside wife Rebecca Romijn.” It’s speculated that the couple could be Ripa’s “replacements,” which would “complicate” her friendship with O’Connell.
The story goes on to allege Anderson Cooper also “recently disappointed” Ripa by supposedly turning down an offer to permanently join “Live.” The article also makes mention of Regis Philbin’s recent interview comments about Ripa, and rehashes Strahan’s controversial exit from the program. All that is enough for the publication declare, “Kelly is dealing with betrayal after betrayal.”
But these claims are misleading, and in one instance, outright wrong. Gossip Cop confirms with a rep for O’Connell and Romijn that they are NOT in talks for their own ABC talk show. In fact, the spokesperson calls the allegation “totally untrue.”
In addition, Cooper re-signed with CNN last October. Ripa didn’t “recently” find out he wouldn’t be joining “Live,” as Life & Style falsely claims. And far from feeling “let down” by her longtime friend, Ripa still welcomes Cooper to the show as a guest co-host.
What’s really going on is the tabloid wanted to craft a story around Ripa’s complicated relationships with Strahan and Philbin, and so it manufactured dubious details about Cooper and O’Connell to go with it. But the TV star has not been “betrayed” by these men. It’s Life & Style that’s betraying readers by printing fiction over fact, like its recent tall tale wrongly alleging Ripa was against Tamron Hall co-hosting with her.
