Kelly Osbourne Did NOT Warn Giuliana Rancic About Zendaya Weed Comment On Fashion Police, Despite Report
Kelly Osbourne did NOT repeatedly warn Giuliana Rancic not to make her controversial “weed” remark about Zendaya during a post-Oscars “Fashion Police” commentary for which Rancic eventually apologized. Us Weekly reported that E! filmed three separate takes of the Zendaya segment because Osbourne allegedly kept telling Rancic not to say Zendaya’s dreadlocks made it look as though the actress smelled like weed. That’s not true.
Here’s what a so-called “insider” told Us Weekly: “They did the Zendaya segment three times. Three different takes. On the first two takes, Kelly said ‘Guys, we can’t say this. Zendaya is a friend of the show.'” The outlet claims that producers went ahead with the third “weed” take despite Osbourne’s protests. “Giuliana said the words ‘patchouli oil’ and ‘weed’ three times,” the supposed insider informs Us Weekly.
The story is 100 percent false. A rep for Rancic tells Gossip Cop it’s not true, and that “Fashion Police” shot the segment in one take. It also is NOT common practice for TV shows like “Fashion Police” to do multiple takes, period.
Rancic’s comment sparked two days of drama. Zendaya wrote a long online post in response to Rancic, defending her hair and expressing outrage with the racial undertones of Rancic’s criticism. Osbourne threatened to quit the show if things between Rancic and Zendaya were not resolved. Rancic offered a long video apology to Zendaya, who accepted.
In the wake of the controversy, it seems like outlets are trying to capitalize on the story by manufacturing new angles to it, like this story about Rancic allegedly ignoring Osbourne’s warnings. Gossip Cop will stamp out the fiction.
