WATCH: Kelly Clarkson Performs Killer Sam Smith “Stay With Me” Cover At First Concert Since Giving Birth
Maternity leave seems to be officially over for Kelly Clarkson. The singer took the stage Saturday at Symphony Park in Charlotte for her first solo show since giving birth earlier this year.
The exclusive, free concert celebrated the new Microsoft store at the North Carolina city’s SouthPark Mall. As part of her set, Clarkson covered “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith, and, naturally, she killed it.
The inaugural “American Idol” winner hasn’t made many public appearances in the last year. She welcomed baby River Rose in June. Last month, she briefly performed at a Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks show, which happened to be River’s very first concert.
During her time out of the spotlight, Clarkson has been working on her new album. She said last month that it will be released in 2015.
But as the holiday season approaches, the star’s career will likely heat up again, thanks to her Christmas album Wrapped in Red. Earlier this month, Clarkson shot a video for the record, and, as Gossip Cop reported, brought her adorable daughter to set for the first time.
As for Smith, he’s had quite the year, too. The British singer broke out in America thanks to “Stay With Me,” which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. He even got to perform it on “Saturday Night Live” in March, and then at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
Before her performance of the track, Clarkson told the crowd, “I know you’ve probably heard it a bunch, but I love it.”
