Kelly Clarkson “It’s Quiet Uptown” Video: Watch “Hamilton” Performance On “Today”
Kelly Clarkson performed her cover of “It’s Quiet Uptown” from Hamilton on Monday’s “Today” show. Check out the video below!
As Gossip Cop previously reported, the Hamilton Mixtape features new versions of the musical’s songs. Clarkson was tasked with doing her own rendition of “It’s Quiet Uptown,” a ballad originally sung by the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, with co-stars Renee Elise Goldsberry and Phillipa Soo. The cover was originally released early last month as a promotional single for the mixtape, which officially dropped this past Friday.
On the “Today” show, Clarkson shared how she became involved with the project. “I was emailed the song at like one in the morning, and I was pregnant with my little boy,” she revealed. “I had not seen Hamilton. Really, I’m just a couple week away from having my boy, and the song is about a boy dying. I was like, ‘Are you serious?!'”
Clarkson went on to reveal she typically cries while singing the song, and this appearance was no exception. “The problem is you want to be emotional. But it’s hard to be so emotional while you’re singing it because no sound will come out of my mouth if I start crying,” she admitted.
The superstar even tweeted after the appearance, “Today Show!! #HamiltonMixTape ….apparently I’m gonna cry every time I’m on national television.” Clarkson also co-hosted the 9 a.m. hour of “Today,” playing a karaoke game and performing “White Christmas.” Watch below.
