Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj have officially signed on as new “American Idol” judges for next season.

Minaj and the country singer, who recently left his gig on the Australian edition of “The Voice,” join fellow mentors Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson on the singing competition.

Fox made the announcement on Sunday morning when all four judges are set to appear at auditions in New York.

“Idol” producer Simon Fuller said, “With the exciting addition of Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, alongside Randy Jackson, American Idol’s star power has never been so great.”

    It’s official. I am not watching this. Mariah is a has been (seen some record sells recently?), Niki is a no talent, flash in the pan (you are going to judge ME? I can sing circles around you), and Randy Jackson is, well Randy. Keith Urban, no idea. Know the name, not his music. I think of the 4, he was the best choice. Bye Bye Idol. Enjoy your last season.

    They are just as desperate as The X Factor. Britney is the lip sync queen and Demi hasn’t been in the business long enough to judge or mentor….they did it to try to attract a younger audience. So it is clear that American Idol is doing the same here, probably hoping to pull in the younger audience with Nicki Minaj. The target audience for most shows is the 18-35 range…..sad but true.

    I’m going to have to agree with the crowd here. She doesn’t really sing on her albums, she hasn’t been in the business long enough to judge people, and what is she going to say t give someone advise? Bad decision. I would have cast and unknown music exec before casting her. This is such a joke.

    I don’t care for either Mariah or Nicki…so I will sit this season out. American Idol needs to stop trying to “compete” with adding a “big name” star and actually get someone who knows all different genre’s of music and who can actually help these contestants…..I love Keith Urban. I think he adds some depth to AI, but that will not be enough to save it…so sad…
