Keeping Up With The Kardashians: About Bruce Recap: Daughters Fight With Jenner About Transition Timeline
The special “Keeping Up With The Kardashians: About Bruce” focused on Bruce Jenner and his daughters fighting with him about not being “honest” about his timetable for fully transitioning into a woman. While talking at his Malibu home to Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian, his stepdaughter tells him through tears, “I don’t this it’s fair you don’t tell us how close this is in the near future. We’re still you’re kids.” Ultimately, Khloe and Kendall find out, in the special taped months ago, that he’s going to live his life as a woman this spring.
Later, Kim Kardashian visits Jenner at his home, where he says he felt his other daughters “ganged up” on him. But Kim explains, “We just want to be in the loop.” The best Jenner can muster is that “I’ve had secrets my entire life… tough not to have secrets.” But even after Kim presses him about his timetable, Jenner responds, “I see myself that way in the future.’ And when Kim realizes the transition will be sooner than expected and has been fully planned, she tells her stepfather that when he hesitates in his answers to these type of questions, “It makes us feel you are lying.”
Kourtney Kardashian joins all her sisters during another meeting with Jenner at his home, and when she hears he had planned to fully transition by the spring, she says, “This is the first I’m hearing about it.” Again, it gets tense between Khloe and Jenner over how forthright he has and hasn’t been, prompting him to say, “I’m not lying. I just didn’t tell you.”
It’s revealed during the special that Jenner has been planning his full transition for a year, without his kids knowing. During the first part of the “About Bruce” special, Jenner opens up to his daughters about all the cosmetic procedures he’s already had, such as a nose job, upper lip lift, and work on his forehead, including lowering his hairline. He even admits that “haircuts have been the most traumatic days of my life,” which explains why, for example, he didn’t cut off his ponytail before Kim’s wedding to Kanye West when she asked him to. At the end of episode, Jenner cries as he tells Khloe during the get-together with all his daughters, “The last thing I want to do is hurt any one of you.”
Throughout the episode, the different daughters share when they found out about Bruce’s secret. Kendall says at first she and Kylie “would find things like makeup and lipstick, and we thought he was having an affair,” but then she was at home and woke up at 4 a.m. and saw him dressed as a woman. Kim recalls how 12 years ago she came home and walked into the garage, where Jenner “dressed up like a woman.” She says she then went crying to Kourtney about it. Kim also divulges how in the 1980s, Jenner was caught with wigs and women’s clothes in a suitcase, and that a reporter learned about it, but was convinced by the former Olympian’s publicist not to do the story.
Kris Jenner is also in the special, but she’s seen struggling with her ex-husband’s decision to fully transition to being a woman. She says, “I’m not OK,” adding, that it “wasn’t even a discussion he would end up his life like that… not in a million years.” But as Jenner himself says in part one of”About Bruce, “I can’t die and not experience her.” Tell us what you thought of part one of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians: About Bruce.”
