‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ Recap: Lamar Odom Meets Caitlyn Jenner
The second episode of Season 12 opened where the premiere left off, with Kris and all of the Kardashian sisters at Kourtney’s house talking about Scott Disick being a no-show for their family dinner. Kim then reminded everyone that Kanye West’s “Yeezy Season 3” fashion show and concert was being held that week in New York City.
Khloe told Kim she was very nervous about bringing Lamar Odom to make his first public appearance at West’s show since overdosing months prior. But Kim reminded her sister that West’s music helped Odom to recover, and that he needs to get back out in the world at some point. Later, Khloe discussed the issue with her best friend Malika Haqq, who agreed that West’s show would be a perfect opportunity for Odom to make his first post-hospitalization debut.
Khloe agreed, and flew to New York with Odom. “You’re just chillin’ right?” she said to him on the plane. “You don’t have anxiety? Only I do. Great.” The two then spoke to Kim via FaceTime, and she told them to “just relax,” adding that there was a custom outfit waiting for Odom. But after the call, Khloe still insisted, “This is nerve-wracking! You haven’t been in public ever [since the overdose]. I have more anxiety than you do, I’m sure. But it’s because I don’t think you understand.” But Odom assured her, “I can understand.” Khloe replied, “I know… but it’s a lot. That’s all I’m saying.” She further said in a confessional, “I’ve decided to go to New York with Lamar, because I think that this is something that he truly wants to do. And at the end of the day, I want Lamar to be happy.” She added, “I still feel a ton of anxiety and pressure, but if this makes him happy, and if I can keep him safe, then that’s a match made in heaven.”
In New York, Kim told Caitlyn, who came to town for West’s show, that Odom had just found out about her transitioning into a woman and was having trouble processing it. She also asked Caitlyn to forgive Khloe for talking about her during an interview on the “Howard Stern Show,” and understand that Khloe didn’t intend to say anything bad about her. Later, Khloe told Kim that Odom was nervous about meeting Caitlyn, and Kim said she had told Caitlyn, “You have to take it in baby steps. He can definitely comprehend it, but he many not be able to grasp it all at once.” Khloe admitted, “I’m so nervous about how Lamar’s going to handle the situation. I feel very overwhelmed.”
Despite being invited, Disick decided not to attend West’s show with the rest of the family because he thought it was too overwhelming. But the rest of the family packed into West’s dressing room before the show, including Caitlyn and Odom who had their first encounter. The two embraced as Caitlyn told him “I love you buddy,” to which the former NBA star responded, “I love you too.” Caitlyn added, “So happy you’re here.” In a confessional, Khloe said, “I feel very overwhelmed for Lamar, so I don’t have time for all this Caitlyn drama between her and I. I’m going to let bygones be bygones.”
At the “Yeezy Season 3” show at Madison Square Garden, West made his grand entrance alongside Odom and the two received a major standing ovation. During the show, West played his new album and debuted his new fashion line for a sold-out crowd, while all of the Kardashians danced in the bleachers. The show was a huge success and everyone was happy that Odom had recovered enough to be able to attend the event. During the car ride home, Odom admitted to Khloe that he accidentally called Caitlyn “Bruce” a few times. “It’s understandable,” she told him, and he admitted, “I tried to correct myself.”
Later at dinner, Caitlyn told Odom, “a lot has happened” since the two last saw each other, adding, “We’ve got to talk.” She added, “Honestly, I was very emotional to see you there tonight… Life’s good isn’t it?” Odom responded, “It’s beautiful. Beats the alternative.” Khloe said in a confessional, “I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Caitlyn and Lamar met… Lamar handled everything perfectly.” Khloe also made up with Caitlyn, who she acknowledged in a confessional was “family” and that she’d always “love her.”
On the plane ride back to L.A., Odom asked Khloe how long he had been in a coma for, and she told him it was four days. “God is good,” Kourtney told Odom, referring to him coming back to consciousness. Khloe added, “But I kind of want him to be a little more afraid. You’re very rare. Bad things can happen if you go back to that life. This is a second chance.” Caitlyn then asked Odom how he was holding up, and he answered, “Good,” adding about Khloe, “Thanks to this lovely young lady.” Caitlyn agreed, saying, “She certainly was there for you.”
