Katy Perry on Russell Brand Marriage: “I Did Everything I Could But It Still Failed”

Katy Perry candidly opened up about her divorce from Russell Brand on “The Tonight Show” Thursday, discussing why she chose to include the demise of their marriage in her upcoming documentary.

The pop star, whose movie Katy Perry: Part Of Me chronicles both her career and her personal life, explains she wanted to show “what was underneath the hood.”

“Just because you’re in the spotlight,” she tells host Jay Leno, “doesn’t mean you get to dodge the curve balls. They’re actually bigger.”

She continues, “I think that if you were to see the movie [and the relationship wasn't featured], you would come out of the theater going, ‘Hmm, that’s strange. I know something else happened in her life at that time last year.’”

Perry says she’s now getting to show her fans that she has some of same issues they do — like failed romances.

In the film, the singer is seen struggling to fit time to see Brand into her busy schedule, at one point even declaring to the camera while on a plane, “I’m trying to keep my marriage alive.”

Ultimately, Perry admits, “I did everything I could but it still failed.”

Is it just me or has she changed? Like, matured since “I Kissed a Girl”…her music and personality seems to have changed, maybe it’s just me

No, she’s changed but for the better. This was an excellent interview.

Cute girl. Nice, talented, smart. I hope she continues to do well.

  • Seriously?

“I did everything I could.” Like go on a world tour right after I got married. I guess she worked on it over the phone and via email. These people have the weirdest view on what makes a relationship actually work. You have to put the actual time in.

As for Brand he was just clinging on to some sort of traditional life most likely. He kept people wanting to be proud of him for not getting high and having one night stands like his previous life. I’m not going to applaud him for it and I don’t think that’s really a reason to get married.

No wonder they imploded after five minutes.

Dude, how many people do you know that never go to work again after their honeymoon?? Its their job, and she would’ve been under contractual agreement for over a year for that particular tour. I was lucky enough to actually get some time with her last year, and her schedule was insane. She works so freaking hard, and good on her for being able to fall in love at that time. I’m just so sad for the both of them that the time apart was too much.

And your ignorant addiction comment?? You either have never had an addiction, never known anyone with an addiction or are just very self-centred and cold hearted. I’ve read his books and he’s hardly seeking applaus, but even if he was he deserves it. Overcoming your own mind in that manner is an immeasurable feat.

I wish for them that there had been a way to keep what they had out of the public eye, so that people Iike you – apparent relational experts – could just keep their ridiculous comments to themselves.

I say good on them for trying to make love work in a loveless world.

That’s what I was thinking, she handled herself really well, I feel like she’s grown up into a better role model and overall person. Good for her!

I concur. If one commits to a marriage, there has to be an effort to make it work. It’s always the first couple of years that will test it’s endurance. Stating that “she did everything she could” has an element of truth in that she kept on sabotaging the relationship (on her end) by openly flirting with other men like dutty manwhore RPattz & several others.

Robert Aykroyd & her did not last because she has side flings along the way (with the other Rob, no less). Was Rusty Buckets warning Kristen or the audience at the MTV’s? “They’re
F***K**ng!”, he says. Who is Rusty, who is?…RPattz & Katy? Huh!

This recent spending the night at Arquette’s club makes one wonder, what could have happened afterwards, as seeing that Kristen is in Paris working hard. When people turn the other cheek away & ignore these developments, I’m pretty sure the next news flash is that Katy had gone “Jolie-ing” the Robsten relationship as well.

    So sad.

Nope, she hasn’t changed. Still the same HUGE famewhore & celebrity name dropper. Ms. Linda Perry (well known songwriter – no relation) is quite dead-on to criticize Katy “Hudson” Perry, that she can’t believe the meaningless, mediocre, songs that she is churning & recording. “Wide Awake” is so lame & cheesy, IMHO.

And she plans to put up her own recording label. Hmmmm, let’s speculate on who might be the potential investors, Mr. Aykroyd? Mr. Pattinson & his LA producer friends. (Sam Foster, who used to be Team Caitlin is probabaly now Team Katy, so he can have a potential record deal as I haven’t heard of interested investors recently?)
