Katy Perry discussed her feud with Taylor Swift and being suicidal in an interview broadcast on Monday’s “Today” show. Watch the video below.

Perry spent the weekend participating in a “Big Brother”-like live stream that recorded her every movement inside a special camera-equipped house. The stunt was to promote her new album, Witness, which came out on Friday. While under the self-imposed house arrest, the pop star gave Natalie Morales a tour of the unique residence, and then sat down for a candid chat.

Morales brought up Perry’s live-streamed therapy session, during which she tearfully suggested she didn’t want to be ‘Katy Perry’ anymore. “I think I was letting go of this thing that I created, you know, which is a more exaggerated version of me,” she now explained. “For a long time, I didn’t feel like, you know, old Kathryn Hudson from Santa Barbra, like I was anything special. I didn’t feel like I was enough. I had to kind of create this character of myself, and she’s done really well.”

Perry also confessed to the therapist that she was suicidal, and now told Morales about her “very low thoughts.” Asked how recently she struggled, the singer responded, “It’s not just been a one time that I’ve felt really low. And, you know, I have my own addictions that I struggle with, whether that’s love or substance, stuff like that. And you know, it’s up and down. Or even just like attention. I get so much attention and that can be an addiction.”

Of her new songs, Perry said each is a “micro-message,” or “all little chapters in my book that’s still being written.” Morales pointedly asked, “‘Swish Swish,’ what is that about? Is it about a certain someone?” She replied, “No, it’s not about anyone in particular, and I’ve said that on the record.” When Morales said it “sounds like a response” to Swift, Perry smiled.

She then sad, “That might be your story, but my story, which I know is true for me, is that I’ve had not just one person bully me, or one person hold me down or met one troll. All I need to say to her is I love her and god bless her on her journey. And that’s it.”

And when Morales brought up Swift released her back catalog to streaming services just as Witness dropped, Perry didn’t take the bait. “I don’t know. I could only do me,” she responded. In another part of the interview, Perry teared up when talking about her parents. Also on Monday, Perry announced via “Good Morning America” that “American Idol” auditions are starting.
