Katy Perry: I Haven’t Talked To Russell Brand Since He Texted Me Asking For Divorce
Katy Perry admits in a new interview that she hasn’t talked to Russell Brand since he sent her a text message saying he was divorcing her. The pair met in 2009 and married one year later in 2010. However, Perry’s fairytale romance quickly and bitterly ended in 2012 when the comedian announced he was leaving her.
“I don’t want to talk about him,” says Perry in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, noting, “He hasn’t spoken to me since he texted me saying he was filing for divorce… My songs will say what I need to say.” The “Roar” singer, who documented the aftermath of her split in her 2012 documentary Part of Me, has since moved on. “I’m one of those people that likes to be fearless,” says Perry, adding, “I don’t like to live in fear because that traps you and your voices. Fear is a control tactic in the world that is negative and depressing and I don’t want to be associated with it.”
Perry also says she’s not afraid to fall in love again. “I’m excited by whatever it brings. I’m excited by my own evolution. I don’t want to end up bittersweet. I have to evolve.” What do you think of the revelation that Perry and Brand haven’t spoken since he texted her that he wanted to end their marriage?
Editor’s note: It seems the Daily Telegraph unscrupulously re-used old quotes. Perry slammed the paper on Monday, tweeting, “It’s really inappropriate when journalists repurpose interviews done 3 yrs ago in context of promoting a film & then stamp a new date on it.”
