Katy Perry Olympics Theme NOT Chosen Over Taylor Swift Song, Despite Report
Katy Perry’s “Rise,” the theme song of the 2016 Rio Olympics, was NOT chosen over a Taylor Swift song, despite an inaccurate report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this story. We’re told it’s not true.
A recent article from Blind Gossip, a site that reports celebrity rumors without naming names, posted a story about a supposed “recent situation involving two famous singers who can’t stand each other.” Without a single source to back up its claim, the outlet alleged a certain singer was “in competition for a song for a major sporting event, but she just couldn’t rise to the occasion and come up with a song that would work.” The outlet further contended that this singer was infuriated to lose the gig to a fellow performer with whom she “has so much bad blood.”
It’s fairly obvious that site was referring to Swift and Perry, which is why Jezebel understandably referenced the story along with the headline, “Was Taylor Swift’s Olympics Theme Rejected In Favor of Katy Perry’s ‘Rise’?” But despite Blind Gossip making such an insinuation, this simply isn’t the case. A well-placed source involved with the summer games tells Gossip Cop that “Taylor was never in contact nor did she ever submit a song for this year’s Olympics.”
