Katy Perry Sued By Christian Rapper For “Tarnishing” His Song With “Witchcraft”
Katy Perry is being sued by a Christian rapper for allegedly stealing his 2008 hip-hop gospel song, “Joyful Noise,” to create “Dark Horse,” the first single from her 2013 album Prism.
The hip-hop performer, Flame, and his producers filed the suit in Michigan federal court this week, seeking damages for Perry’s alleged use of their Grammy-nominated track to promote the “witchcraft” allegedly found in Perry’s lyrics. “By any measure, the devoutly religious message of ‘Joyful Noise’ has been irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in ‘Dark Horse,'” states the lawsuit.
The “Dark Horse” music video did indeed lead to a petition, signed by more than 60,000 people, demanding its removal for alleged use of offensive religious imagery. Gossip Cop will have updates.
