Katy Perry opens up to Chelsea Handler about her high-profile exes, her sex-life, and why she never stays single for long in Cosmopolitan. The late-night host grilled Perry about her exes Russell Brand and John Mayer for the article, which will appear in all of the magazine’s 62 international editions.

About ending her marriage to Brand, Perry reveals, “It feels like a hundred lifetimes ago, so it’s like digging up an old grave,” adding, “A lot of therapy has happened and a lot of understanding and growth.” She continued, “Sometimes you have to go through all this s**t to get your grips on life and figure out what the next boundaries in your love life are going to be… You have to go through the mud in order to find that peaceful place.” Perry notes, “In the long run, it was necessary for me to have more of a teammate.”

When asked about getting back together with Mayer, the singer says it’s not something she thinks about. “I know it sounds really hippie s**t, but I’m living in the now and not fantasizing about the future or [being] torn up about the past,” says Perry. “I have a lot of respect for [John] still, and I know it goes both ways,” Perry adds. “There’s no bad blood, but I’m sure there will be inspired songs.”

Perry also tells Cosmo that the longest she has gone without sex has been “maybe six months or a year.” “The most important thing about sex is connection,” says the singer, who admits, “I don’t stay single for long.” What do you think of Perry’s comments?
