New York Post: Kato Kaelin Says O.J. Simpson Killed Nicole [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Kaelin now tells TMZ that over the years he’s expressed his belief that O.J. Simpson killed Nicole, but says he did not tell the New York Post, “Yes, he did it.”

Gossip Cop reached out to Cindy Adams, who wrote the piece in question, and she acknowledged that while she did not speak directly to Kaelin, she maintains, “He said it.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

Kato Kaelin says O.J. Simpson killed his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

The shocking declaration comes nearly two decades after Kaelin, O.J.’s house guest when the murders were committed in June 1994, served as a star witness for the football legend’s defense team in the subsequent trial.

“The statute of limitations has now passed… so I can now say… yes, he did it,” Kaelin tells the New York Post.

Simpson, of course, was acquitted of the two murders, although he was later found to be responsible for the deaths in a civil trial and is currently incarcerated on separate charges.

Asked why he didn’t reveal what he believes to be the truth during the 1995 murder trial, Kaelin explains, “I was too scared. I was terrified.”

He adds, “People hated me. I’ve been spat upon. They threw gum in my coffee.”

    So he perjured himself, and now admits it? He should be thankful the statute of limitations on perjury in California is only 4 years.

    Oh no! Not the dreaded gum in the coffee and being spat upon? I can easily understand how terrified he was especially as two other people were already dead and the killer was still on the loose. What a sorry piece of crap you are Kato Kaelin. If you believe in Karma, I wouldn’t count on coming back as something beautiful in the next life.

    Unfortunately he was tried and acquitted in a court of law and can’t be tried again (double jeopardy). That’s why they went the civil route.

    Here’s another media hog, if you knew this in 1994, and you didn’t tell because you were scared, pleassssssssse, had you voiced this, you knew free room and board would be over, so you were only worried about what would happen to this charmed life you had come upon. Have you ever had a job, I’d lay a dollar to a dime, you’ve been living off of people for years. You were spat on, and gum was put in your coffee, to bad, so sad.     What is the statute of limitations on a liar? I think he should have to face the judge himself and be incarcerated for the rest of his natural born life. I also feel he should get no press for his confutation.

    That’s what I thought…there is no statue on murder….
    I’m not gonna judge him though…I’m sure he was scared and thought there’s a good chance he would be next….

    Agree that he wants the 15 minute of fame again…..why else would you want to even say it now? Ya he is safe from perjury now……but why bring up something that can’t be changed now? Always a motive ……probably needs money!

    Shocking declaration? Really? It’s hardly shocking, just a shame he didn’t bring it up to the police at the time. If he was found responsible for the deaths, he should have been locked up for life. Hollyweird justice strike again.

    Mr. Kalin, you were born under an unfortunate star and disappointments and failures have determined the paths your life has taken. No one wants to be hated, but there are times life demands that one step up and tell the truth regardless of the consequences he imagines or fears as reprisal.
