Katie Couric NOT In Talks For ‘Today Show’ Return, Despite Report
Katie Couric is NOT in talks to return to the “Today” show as a full-time co-anchor, despite an inaccurate webloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk this claim. We’re told it’s not true.
The newswoman is filling in all week for “Today” show regular Savannah Guthrie, who’s currently on maternity leave. But RadarOnline is now making the false claim that Couric wants to keep the seat permanently. A so-called” source” tells the site, “Katie wants to return to Today in some role. Her chemistry with Matt [Lauer] is fantastic and the early numbers show viewers have missed her, too.”
“Katie’s agents are talking with NBC about her returning full time,” adds the webloid’s questionable source, who further purports that Guthrie will be edged out of the morning talk show. “One idea is to ‘promote’ Savannah to reporting on ‘NBC Nightly News’ or have her host ‘Weekend Nightly News’ and give her a role on ‘Meet the Press,” added the dubious insider.
Gossip Cop, however, checked in with a rep for Couric, who tells us that while “she has had a great time” guest hosting the “Today” show, “she has never suggested she wants to permanently return” and “there is a team in place already.” Couric simply isn’t in talks with NBC for a full-time gig.
