Katie Couric Slams Rumor She Wants Brian Williams’ NBC Nightly News Job
Katie Couric has shot down a report claiming she’s gunning for Brian Williams’ job as the “NBC Nightly News” anchor finds himself embroiled in controversy after admitting his oft-repeated story about taking enemy fire while in a helicopter in Iraq in 2003 was fabricated. Couric took to Twitter on Monday to dispel rumors.
She wrote, “Been out of pocket – any rumors about me and NBC completely untrue. Wishing my friends at my former home the best during this tough time.”
A number of outlets, including the New York Daily News, tried to link Couric to the gig in recent days. “Katie still has deep, deep contacts at NBC,” one source told the Daily News. “She would love to return as the ‘Nightly News’ anchor.”
The newspaper’s alleged insider dramatically continued, “No one smells blood like Katie. She is like a shark. Brian is in deep trouble and this could be her chance… She has already made it clear that she is ready to have a meeting and get back into NBC.”
Over the weekend, Williams announced that he’ll be temporarily stepping away from “NBC Nightly News” amid the controversy, although he said he’d only be gone for a period of “days.” Gossip Cop will have updates.
