Katie Couric is leaving her job as the anchor of “CBS Evening News,” reports the Associated Press.
The news service, claiming to have spoken to a CBS executive, says Couric – the first woman to solely anchor an evening newscast – will leave her position, and is “expected to launch a syndicated talk show in 2012.”
Following the original fanfare when Couric took over anchoring duties less than five years ago, the “CBS Evening News” settled into third place behind NBC’s leading “Nightly News” with Brian Willams and ABC’s “World News” with Diane Sawyer.
While no end date has been announced, reports the Associated Press, Couric’s contract expires on June 4.
A source close to Couric confirms to Gossip Cop that it’s “a likely scenario” she’ll leave the “CBS Evening News,” but it’s not quite a done deal yet, and “she’s figuring things out.”
